Man stabbed to death over PlayStation … still?

A piece in theSan Francisco Chroniclereveals that Sony’s console systems are still responsible for murderous violence and the sort of covetting that that Commandment was created in response to. The story, which I had to read three times before I finally understood what went on, tells us that two women were trying to sell a “PlayStation” (it’s in quotes because we want to assume it was at least a PS3), the “PlayStation” was stolen from them, a man named Hani Attia tried to stop the thief and was subsequently stabbed for his trouble....

Miyamoto on recession: 2009’s games were ‘not fun enough’

Last year, things weren’t going too well for the videogame industry. Hit by the recession, people were losing money and jobs were lost. Nintendo legend and cheeky imp Shigeru Miyamoto has blamed the games, claiming that 2009’s products simply weren’t fun enough to sell in droves. “I think any entertainment products are less susceptible to changes in the economy,” explains Mario’s dad. “The fact that in 2009 we were not able to sell more than we did in 2008 was simply that in comparison, we were not able to produce fun-enough products....

Monday Mind Teasers: Crimson Room

[UPDATE] The old link is broken. you’re able to playCrimson Roomherenow (or at least until this link stops working too). “Ahhhh!” “The horror!” “Minimize in fear!” These screams might well describe your reaction to this game back in 2004 when it first hit the Internet. And boy did it hit us hard. Don’t let its simple and sleek graphics fool you; it is not a smooth and simple game. From start to finish it’s not that long of a game at all, butunlikeLittle Wheelit doesn’t lead you to the end, and much unlike last week’srevisitingofSamorost 1&2, this game’s goal is not relaxation and enjoyment....

Namco Bandai trademarks Ridge Racer Accelerated in Japan

Ever vigilant in that department,Siliconerahas unearthed another Japanese trademark, this time from Namco Bandai. It seems the company has registered something calledRidge Racer Accelerated, and if I had to guess, I’d say it’s probably a newRidge Racergame. Thanks, scientific method! Nothing is known about it yet, obviously, but it’s certainly been a while since we had a newRidge Racertitle, and I’m pleased to hear it’s (probably) coming back. Is it a Wii title?...

There’s some built-in games that use the 3DS’ StreetPass pass-by communication functionality. One is calledStreet Pass Quest, and it’s a turn-based battle game where you’ll work to rescue your Mii. You’ll actually use Miis you’ve acquired via StreetPass to battle baddies to get to deeper stages to get to where your Mii is at. New Rhythm Heaven Wii screens look so good

I’ve always loved theRhythm Heavenfranchise for its concept, and not necessarily for its looks. It didn’t look fantastic on the Game Boy Advance, though you got a good feel for the visual style they were going for. The possibilities became clear when they released that arcade version of the GBA game, and even more so with the release of DS sequelRhythm Heaven Gold. Now Nintendo has a chance to go nuts with this distinctive visual style on our televisions withRhythm Heaven Wii....

Nintendo reveals first half of 2008 releases

Nintendo and I have had our differences over the years, but even with a nearly endless capacity for petty, baseless grudges it’s hard for me to ignore the epic list Nintendo has unveiled of their 2008 releases. I say epic because this is just the list for the first half of ’08; and with nearly 150 games between the Wii and DS listed even I have a hard time maintaining a stodgy, no-fun visage....

Nintendo won’t do Legend of Zelda Anniversary collection

It’s the 25th anniversary ofThe Legend of Zelda, and those expecting more than we’ve already been told we’re getting are set to be disappointed. Both president Satoru Iwata and designer Shigeru Miyamoto have shot down the idea of doing a celebratory collection. We recently had a (rather crappy) collection ofMariogames to celebrate the plumber’s 25th, but no such honor shall be given to Link. Apparently, doing another compilation “isn’t the Nintendo way,” which makes absolutely no logical sense to me....
