CVGhas confirmed with Activision that the next game in the series will beCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The first video from the game will air this weekend on ESPN, during the NFL draft.

While Activision isn’t saying much beyond hyping up a damned commercial, rumors that were floating around over a year ago might hold the key:

…rumour of the sequel hitting back in March 2006 suggested it deals with tackling terrorists around the globe in an attempt to thwart plans that involve unleashing an arsenal of chemical weapons.

Players, according to the rumour, will operate as part of the S.A.S., US Marines and the US Army, with the action occurring in such locations as the Middle-East, the streets of Eastern Europe, aboard sea vessels in the North Atlantic and London.

Despite being burned out on the series and war shooters in general, I’m pretty confident that Infinity Ward are going to do some awesome things with their baby. Fans have a lot to look forward to; expect footage of the trailer to hit the Internet within minutes of airing on ESPN.
