Modern Warfare 2pissed off a lot of PC people when it was revealed that Infinity Ward’s blockbuster wouldscrap dedicated serversin favor of a service that doesn’t properly work. Many PC users boycotted the game, only togo crawling backonce the title actually launched, but despite the fact that gamers are weak and incapable of making a stand, Treyarch has nonetheless decided to score some brownie points.

Yes,Call of Duty: Black Opsis getting the dedicated server treatment.

“I think dedicated servers are excellent. I don’t see any reason not to see them unless,” says studio boss Mark Lamia. “Well, I just don’t see any reason not to. It seems people like them and we’re excited about what we’re doing right now.”

It’s good PR to do so, but it also makes perfect sense. Dedicated servers are usually scrapped when the publisher or developer has some self-contained server system it’s trying to foist on customers, and Treyarch doesn’t have that. Still, it’s quite good to know either way.
