For those of you who gotdistressedoverthe Destructoid review— especially the chap who left some hilarious hate mail in my inbox — you’re able to console yourself at nightwith the thoughtthatCall of Duty: World at Warhas become the third-fastest selling game in the UK, behindGTA IVandGTA: San Andreas.
In its first week,WaWoutsoldModern Warfarealmost two-to-one. It has topped the UK chart, managing to put even theWorld of Warcraftexpansion,Wrath of the Lich King, into second place.Football Manager 09is in the third slot, unsurprisingly.

Last week,Gears of War 2became king of the chart, while Sony’s hot holiday release,LittleBigPlanet, charted at number four.GoW2is now occupying that fourth position, whileLBPfailed to get into the top ten at all this week. Ouch.
As far asWaWgoes, this is hardly shocking. Big franchise, following a wildly popular release from last year. It goes to show that Activision’s “yearly exploitation” method works … although I don’t know if that’s the kind of encouragement Activision needs.
