Twisted Pixel found itself at the center of a shitstorm earlier this week, when it called out Capcom Mobile foressentially copying‘Splosion Man. The publisher had putMaXplosionon the iPhone, which mimicked thepopular XBLA titleto practically scummy levels.
Capcom has finally responded, and while it didn’t exactly confess, itdidsay it was “saddened” by the situation, and attempted to argue that the copying did not come as a result of a meeting in which Capcom turned down the opportunity to publish‘Splosion Man.

“While Twisted Pixel did have discussions with our console game team about publishing‘Splosion Manon game consoles, Capcom Mobile is a different division of Capcom with separate offices and as such, had no prior knowledge of any meetings between the console game team and Twisted Pixel,” states the publisher. “MaXplosionwas developed independently by Capcom Mobile. Nonetheless, we are saddened by this situation and hope to rebuild the trust of our fans and friends in the gaming community.”
It does look a little like Capcom kicking its mobile division into the firing line, and it’s going to be interesting to see whether or not fans can forgive and forget so easily. Twisted Pixel appears to have more or less gotten over it, but I hope that someone, somewhere, is doing a little more to make it up to them.
