Looking back on all the wonderful (and slightly less wonderful) things that we’ve seen so far at this year’s E3, I thinkSin and Punishment 2was one of my (Ashley) favorites. And to think, we nearly completely missed the display for the game! We must have gone through Nintendo’s booth ten times, never seeing it once. After a little guidance from Nintendo booth expert Mr. Concelmo, we finally got to see and play the game earlier today.

After the jump, Anthony and myself talk about what we thought of the game, which may be of interest to some of you. If it’s not, I guess you can just ignore it.  But come on! You want to know and Punishment 2, don’t you?

Anthony:To summarize Chad’s preview: he thought Sin and Punishment 2 was “amazing.”

No surprises there.

Ashley:But man, he was kinda on the money this time.

I never played the original Sin and Punishment, but from what basically everyone tells me, the controls were horrendous.

Anthony:Yeah. It was a great game trapped on a system with not enough joysticks and buttons to make it work as it’s supposed to.

Ashley:But it seems like it was always the perfect Wii gamee.

Anthony:Sorry.

Ashley:Mine too.

Anthony:It didn’t change the original formula like, at all, but it honestly didn’t need to — it just feels like we’re playing the game we were meant to play so many years ago.

People compare it to Star Fox because it’s on rails. How do you feel about that comparison?

Black Ops 6 Season 5 Multiplayer Ransack Mode

Ashley:I guess it’s like Star Fox? I’m equally not good at either.

But I really had a lot of fun regardless. I don’t think the controls could have been any more perfect.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2: a black and white Jin and Heihachi stand back-to-back.

Anthony:Yeah, I really have no complaints with them at all. No waggle, just really good IR sensor-age. And so many goddamn enemies — it honestly feels a bit more like a 3D shmup than something like Star Fox, which is more chill.

Anthony:The guy said Treasure was actually developing it, right?

PEAK Bing Bong plushie

Anthony:And it comes out Q1 2010.

Yeah, I remember that specifically.

Ashley:There were two characters to choose from, a male and a female. Each one had their own different special move.

Anthony:The guy had One Bigass Shot, and the girl had a multiple lock-on attack like the protagonists from Rez or Zone of the Enders 2.

Silent Hill f: a woman’s face covered in blossoming but deadly looking flowers.

She was really satisfying to control.

Ashley:Yeah, everyone was playing as the girl.

Though I’m sure it is as much of a delight to control him as well.

Anthony:Yeah. I’m definitely looking forward to the game. It’s nothing mindblowing or even particularly new, but it’s really meaty, neo-retro fun.

Ashley:I agree. It’s definitely on my radar now, and now I want to go through the first game just so I don’t miss out on anything come Sin and Punishment 2’s release.

Anthony:You won’t once you get your hands on the controller, trust me.

Battlefield 6 vehicles combat

Ashley:Well, we’ll see.

I’m stronger than you think I am.

Anthony:Everyone who has played the original Sin and Punishment is probably now reaching out toward their monitors wistfully, mumbling “No, Ashley, don’t…” as a single tear rolls down their cheek. I know I would be.
