At the Nintendo’s E3 Press conference yesterday, I was nearly in tears during the all-orchestral performance of a classicZeldamedley. I wasn’t the only one. Hollie Benett, Jim Sterling, and even Dtoid’s founder and grand master Niero were fighting to keep their emotions in check. We love the Zelda games, pure and simple.

That said, even things you love drop the ball sometimes, and that’s how I feel about the bird chasing segment ofLegend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. It looked great, and the controls were fine, but from there things really fell apart. I’m almost sure I was “playing it wrong,” but with no cues or direction, I’m not sure how I could have known how to play any other way.

Maybe this mode will be fun in the final game, and/or under different conditions, but for now I’m giving this bird business a hearty thumbs down.
