The folks at theI’ve-never-heard-of-themActive Network are out to get EA. The online workout network is accusing Electronic Arts of copyright infringement, saying that they’ve taken the “Active” name for their EA Sports Active fitness game series.

The Active Network trademarked in 2008, and offers services under the Active brand, including exercise programs and online tracking of workouts.

If you know anything aboutEA Sports Active, you’ll know that the software does many of those same things…and under the same name. The Active Network wants to block EA from releasing titles with online characteristics under the Active name. That sucks because the release ofEA Sports Active 2is right around the corner, and it has online connectivity in the PS3 version.

I don’t know how this is going to turn out, but let’s face it: Active is a stupid name. Either party could come up with something better easily. How aboutEA Sports Non-sedentary?
