Factor 5, developers ofLairfor the PlayStation 3, are, in addition to finishing the game, currently in the process of preparing two downloadable games for the PS3’s online service. Speaking in an interview withGamasutra, Factor 5 co-founder and president, Julian Eggebrecht said he felt downloadable PS3 games have huge potential. Upon being asked what aspects of the gaming business he was looking forward to in 2007, here’s what he said:
“Actually I’m really looking forward to 2007, because we’re going to finishLair, which is my biggest concern right now, but also, I’m really looking forward to working on a couple of smaller projects [for PlayStation 3], with the so-called EDI [E-Distribution Initiative] from Sony, which I think has huge potential, and personally as a director, I think it’s one of these things that we in the creative community need a little bit.”

Mmm. More downloadable content for the PS3. Their online service might grow into something after all. Incidentally, I believe changingGran Turismo HDto adownloadable demowas a good tactical decision on Sony’s part. Whether or not it would have made a good game, I can’t judge, but it definitely makes their PlayStation Store look more tempting in downloadable form.
