Transformers: War for Cybertronhas been met with a healthy dose of skepticism by the perpetually cynical hardcore gamer. After being stung in the past by poorTransformersgames, people have been wary of getting too excited over this latest game, despite how promising it looks. We asked High Moon Studios’ Matt Tieger whether it’s been difficult to sway public opinion, and he wasn’t shy in expressing the challenges of PR.
“It’s definitely been an uphill battle,” admits the director. “Transformersgames in the past, and honestly, licensed games really have a negative stigma associated with them. I think the industry is changing and I think we’re starting to see games now that are licensed that can be really good. The lastBatmanwas really good, right?
“So, we feel that it has been a challenge, and we approached it head on. We recognize that people are skeptical aboutTransformerswondering if it really can be a good game. For that we’re really gonna have to show them, and I think when reviewers get their hands on it, because the hardcore gamers, they read those reviews. They’re gonna read what reviewers say about the game and that’s what I believe is gonna sway ’em.
“We can put out great videos, we can have a great sales pitch but at the end of the day it’s how it feels under your thumb, but the hardest of the hardcore, those reviews are going to sway them.”
These are very courageous words from Tieger and it’s encouraging to see him stake his claim so boldly. This particular reviewer will be gettingWar for Cybertronunder his thumb next week and I can’t wait to check it out.
