I’m in the mood for some nineties one-hit-wonder obscurity, so today I am inflictingSpacemanby Bablyon Zoo upon you. They got a bit popular in Britain after appearing in a Levi’s advert. They were pretty much gone as soon as they arrived. The lead singer was called Jas Mann, which is just ridiculously brilliant.

Speaking of lead singers, we played videogames this week, and now we’re going to tell you which ones. Hit that wacky jump to find out which ones.

Razak:I started playingRoogoo Twisted Towersas I’m a massive fan of the game. Dug about two worlds into it and I’m having fun, but we’ll have to see if it offers up some real challenge. I have to get some friends over to play the multiplayer too as that’s really the best part ofRoogoo. The new skydiving levels are pretty fun too. Otherwise I’ve been doing someConduitaction and having fun with it online (yes, fun, Wii, online) and interspersing it withAssassins Creed every once in a while. I need to get back intoFlower, Sun and Rainas it has drifted away.

North:Pangya: Fantasy Golfis my jam of jams.Monster Hunter Freedom Uniteis my jam that I keep dying in. Quiddich is most definitely not my jam.

Hell is Us gameplay reveal

Sterling: It’s mostly been a DS week for me. I’ve been stuck withTransformers: Revenge of the Fallenon both Xbox 360 and DS. I gave up playing the latter because the horrible attempt at using a home console control scheme is cramping my hands up. I’ve also been playingOverlord: Minionsfor our review. As the review says, it’s good but frustrating, like mostOverlordgames.

Treasure Worldhas been a strange experience as I “play” that for review. It’s incredibly passive, hard to really call a game, and I am confident I can review it after only seeing it in action for a few minutes. However, it’s still weirdly brilliant. It’ll be interesting trying to review it.

Black Ops 6 Season 5 Multiplayer Ransack Mode

Otherwise, replayingMGS4and you should know by now that I playedMega Manfor all of three minutes to capturefootage of absolute fail. That was surprisingly fun.

Niero:I’ve been playing a lot of not-MAME on our non-existent office arcade cabinet.  I’m particularly fond of this one ridiculous Japanese game calledMikeythat operates like a retarded version ofDiner Dashset in a classroom where you must ass-headbutt your classmates out of their chairs while avoiding the teacher’s beatdowns and eraser-throwing.  The game features an 8-bit rendition of the Beatle’s Hard Day’s Night, which makes the game golden.  I can’t pass the first stage. It is brutal.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2: a black and white Jin and Heihachi stand back-to-back.

Concelmo:After finishing up my Harry Potter videogame marathon (more on that in an upcoming feature) I continued playing (I guess you could technically say re-re-re-re-re-replaying)Final Fantasy VIIon PSN. Love the game; love the characters; love the nostalgia; not a big fan of the really dated controls. Seriously, pushing “up” makes me walk inwhichdirection? :/

Bennett:ReplayingPuzzle Questwith the expansion pack, messing withLoomon my PC and squeezing in a little bit ofMonkey Island.

PEAK Bing Bong plushie

Villasenor:My sister and I dusted off ourRescue Rangerscart and tried to play through that for the first time in years. And, even though it’s been quite a while since either of us have touched it, things went the way they always do: my sister used up all her lives by level 2 and I ended up finishing the game by myself with a good 15 lives left over. She was not amused.

Aside from that, I replayedChrono Triggeragain, got a bit further inSuper Robot Wars OG, and tried outNeoTokyo, which I am horrible at.

Silent Hill f: a woman’s face covered in blossoming but deadly looking flowers.

Grim:At the suggestion of most of the staff, I checked out a bunch of adventure games likeFull Throttle,Loom,Space Quest, andManiac Mansion. Needless to say, good times were had as a result of these fine products. And when I wasn’t playingDead Spaceto get my last two Achievements, or learning useless trivia fromScene It? LCA, I was replaying some of my GameCube favorites likeMetroid Prime,Rogue Squadron II, andPikmin. Talk about a fun week of gaming.

Concelmo:FULL THROTTLE! BEST GAME EVER!

Also,Pikmin! Yay!

Ross:Let’s see,TF2as always…I finished the first episode of bothMonkey IslandandSam and Max E1. Just started playingDeath to Spies 2for review about an hour ago, and I’ve been playing a ton ofPicross DS.Got a littleBlazBluein last night, and I imagine I’ll be playing a whole bunch of stuff this afternoon since I’m going to Dexter’s.

Aziz:I’ve been jamming out to this all day:

Davis:Funnily enough, I actually playedSonic Rthis week. 🙂

Several men standing and watching at an explosion in the distance in Battlefield 6.

DMV:Been playing the hell out ofCross Edge, EA Sports’Active,BlazBlue,Holy Invasion of Privacy Badman!, and of courseDynasty Warriors Gundam 2. Somehow I’ll get through them all…

Holmes:Bit.Trip Coreate my brain on Monday, so Io spent the rest of the week playing relatively mindless games. Did catch some July bugs and fish in Animal Crossing: City Folk, playedThe Conduitonline, and went back to Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop to try and unlock some secret missions. Totally stuck right now on getting an “S” rank on a mission called “The Drunkard” where you have to rescue a drunk man from being eaten by zombies. Despite the fact that I have the heated up frying pan and the mega buster, I can still only get an “A” on it.

BO7 key art

Maybe after my brain grows back a bit, I’ll be able to pull it off.

Gutierrez:Gaming on Fight Night 4, I’m obsessed with freaking boxing. Still itching to final finish Dead Space and pick up where I left off on Silent Hill Homecoming. Ugh, so behind!

Zimmerman:You’re behind? I just put inLost Planetfor the first time this weekend and I really regret not having played it sooner. It’s going to take me forever to go all the way through but I’m really impressed with the gameplay.

I’ve also been playingBlazBlueandAfro Samuraion the PS3 andInfernal: Hell’s Vengeance(still!) andRock Bandon the 360.

Chester:A bunch of iPhone games, includingDoom Resurrection. I’m trying to determine if that one is worth $9.99, and so far I’m not convinced. That doesn’t mean it’s not technically impressive, and that the core gameplay and iPhone control-scheme doesn’t work incredibly well. It’s just that even on a phone, theDoomseries just doesn’t have enough todoto keep it feeling fresh, and it doesn’t help that the first four or five levels (of eight) look nearly identical. Maybe this engine with the fun and (kind of silly)Doom RPGmechanics might be fun… and worth $9.99.
