TheGears of Warmotion picturemight not be thevisceralandbrownrollercoaster ride that the latest installmentof the videogame series was. In an interview withMaking Of, producer Wyck Godfrey says the team wants to tell the story of instant survival after Emergence Day. In his head, the goal is to avoid making the flick “feel (just) like a world torn asunder” and have “people just in battle.”
“We went to the guys that created the game and just sort of made our pitch about how we’re going to put it together. Right now we’re working with Len Wiseman on it at Legendary and New Line,” Godfrey said.

“The hard part is to make it into something that doesn’t feel like a world torn asunder and people just in battle. You gotta figure out — I think we really want to focus on the idea of a world that’s running well and then its Emergence Day.“Kind of make it impactful and immediate and the survival of what those 48 hours as people survive Emergence Day is, more likeCloverfieldor something like that.”
Neat. I’ve never seenCloverfield. I heard it’s likeGodzilla(minus Godzilla). I’m still not sure what that means, but I do know that I like dinosaurs. And Locusts. So, go ahead and count me in for the midnight launch of theGearsflick if Godfrey’s vision is realized.
