In an interview withGamasutra,Gears of Warfranchise senior producer Rod Fergusson suggested that the Xbox 360 is reaching its technological potential with heavyweight titles such asToo HumanandSmash Court Tennis 3eagerly occupying store shelves. Kidding aside, Fergusson maintained that even though the Xbox 360 has a technological ceiling, he sees “room to grow” for titles in the future.

…I think we’re certainly approaching the upper end of [the Xbox 360 technological potential] as far as what developers are able to do with it, but just looking at all the demos we saw today — ours and others — it’s clear that all the games just keep improving, and keep pushing that bar.

There will be games in development that won’t ship until 2010, and I’m sure they’ll look killer, just because, again, they’ll have more time with it, and learn from mistakes and optimizations of others. So, I don’t know; I think we’re getting up there, but I still think there’s room to grow.

Of course, Fergusson’s comments on future titles looking better could be a little biased, as we all expectGears of War 3to hit in the 2010 timeframe. Fergusson’s suggestion is rather interesting, though. Do you guys think that the Xbox 360 is hitting its technological plateau or will radical, platform-defining games continue to come out for the console?
