Excuse how excited that headline looks. The exclamation points are part of the game’s title: Utacchi!!

I knew nothing about this Bemani DS game, a February Japanese release, untilSiliconerasaid something about it today. It turns out that we wrote about it late last year. Have any of you music games fans tried it yet?

They call it a lightPop’n Musicwith touchscreen controls. You hold your DS sideways like a book and you’ll tap notes that fall from the top of the screen in rows ranging from one (easy) to five (difficult). Speaking of difficulty, this sounds kind of scary:

Each note requires you to perform a certain action when they reach the bottom of the screen. You tap the button for red notes, tap and hold for blue, tap and tap and quickly slide up for yellow. The green notes sound a bit tricky, as you have to tap once it hits the bottom, then slide the stylus up and down until the note ends.

The main feature that had me interested was the DS microphone support. If your Japanese skills are solid, you’re able to sing along as game input.

Utacchi!!sounds pretty import friendly, so I’m thinking about checking it out. Anyone else out there try this yet?
