In a recentinterview with Sony, Ken Levine was quizzed on his early support of the PlayStation Vita, and why he thinks it’sgood enough forBioShock. The Irrational Games director’s response was pretty straightforward — he’s a gamer, and he wants a gamer’s device.

“I’m a gamer, right? I like playing games on iPad … but deep down I want that level of control,” he said. “What’s cool about PS Vita is that it seems to have all the benefits of an iPad-type device with the touchscreen and motion controls. But it has dual analog sticks … and I love shooters.

“You can finally play a shooter, a real shooter, on a handheld. Seriously, that’s a hole in my soul right now. Now I’ll have something I can play real shooters on, and that’s really important to me. It’s awesome.”

I must admit, the footage of a properKillzoneFPS running on Vita is what really got me interested in the handheld. Of course, with suggestions that the market doesn’t want dedicated gaming handhelds these days, people like Levine may be a dying breed. In any case, I’m kinda hoping the Vita is a success and that Sony supports it properly. I’d like to see Sony do a gaming handheld justice.
