According to mad scientist Hideo Kojima, his studio is not one big, happy family where everybody gets along. In fact, there’s a little bit of competition brewing between the teams working onMetal Gear Solid: Peace WalkerandMetal Gear Solid: Rising, with the former showing a little bit of jealousy when it comes to the latter.
“If you could imagine the PSP team looking at theRisingteam,”explains Kojima, “they have all the money and specs. It’s interesting for me to see the team members act in this way. This was never before because it was always just one small team. Now we are much bigger.”

He adds that the two teams are “not really good friends.”
Kojima’s right, it’s certainly interesting to see that a studio pulling in the same direction would have this kind of internal envy, but that’s the cost of expansion. With more people comes more chance for conflict. Hopefully the sense of competition will see both teams striving to outshine the other and, in turn, produce two excellentMetal Gear Solidgames for us to enjoy.

So long as we get to benefit from bitter corporate misery, then everything’s okay.
