Great news for all haters of obsolete, egotistical, pointless Hollywood meddling. It seems that the dreadedMetal Gear Solidmovie, by far one of the most pointless ideas of all time, isn’t going to happen. The film’s producer has confirmed that its chances aren’t very high at all, citing a lack of matching agendas.
“Video game companies are very protective of their property and there are certain things a studio requires freedom-wise to market and distribute a movie effectively in a global marketplace and sometimes getting those two things to match up is really hard,” Michael De Luca. “And in the case ofMetal Gear Solid, the agendas just … not because the parties weren’t amicable, it was just kind of impossible to get the agendas to match up.”
Sounds to me like the movie people wanted to do something stupid and Konami wasn’t having any of it. The movie, which was rumored to star Christian Bale in a role that David Hayter made his own, seemed like a pointless waste of time anyway, so I’m glad it seems to have stopped.
There is nothing a movie could add toMetal Gearthat the games themselves aren’t capable of doing. In fact, to make a movie version ofMGSis an insult to the games, an implication that they have failed as a narrative medium. It was incredibly arrogant for somebody to assume they could do better than Kojima, just because they were in the movie business. F*ck those guys.
