Modern Warfare 2will not have a subscription fee.
Infinity Ward recently excused themselves from Activision’s possible plans totack MMO-like subscription fees on to theCall of Dutymultiplayer component. In response to the supposed Activision survey we unearthed last week, Infinity Ward community manager Robert “fourzerotwo” Bowling flatlytold official message board usersnot to worry about extra charges inModern Warfare 2because, well, Infinity Ward would “never introduce” them.
“This rumor has absolutely nothing to do with Infinity Ward or our games, including Modern Warfare 2,” Bowling wrote. “We would never introduce such a system for Modern Warfare 2, so don’t worry. Multiplayer will always be equal and free for everyone as always.”

The survey we unearthed last week suggested multiple multiplayer enhancements for either a monthly fee or an initial purchasing fee. According to the survey, the MMO-style service would “enhance the multiplayer experience and provide exclusive access to a group of gameplay enhancements.” This includes early access to expansions and betas, and exclusive access to character skins, enhanced stat tracking, game modes and even “support for competitive play.”
Infinity Ward isn’t biting, but will Treyarch? We’ll see, I’m sure.
