Asking videogame nerds if they like the Dreamcast is akin to asking Roman Polanski if he likes a trail of candy leading to his bedroom. The system that has only gotten more popular with hindsight has a brand new shootercoming out for it, thanks to a team of plucky Homebrewers. The game’s calledHypertension, and it’s based on the ludicrous PC FPSBlood.

While homebrew Dreamcast games are nothing new, Hypertension is particularly interesting because it’s not a puzzle game or a scrolling shooter. It’s not often the Dreamcast gets an FPS, so those who want to do something other than pilot little spaceships and move colored blocks around might be interested.

As well as basing itself off theBloodseries, Hypertension also uses the EDGE Engine, which is in turn based upon theDOOMsource code. Nostalgia fans will have plenty to indulge in with this shameless throwback game. Also, if you don’t own a Dreamcast, never fear. The game is due to hit PCs and Linux too.

There’s a video after the jump, but be warned that the game is still in Alpha build so it’s not looking quite as good as it could and hopefully will. Still, it’ll give you a good idea of how the game runs. Let us know what you think.
