In a recent interview, Kojipro creative producer Yoshikazu Matsuhana explained whyMetal Gear Solidwon’t be appearing on the recently announcedMetal Gear SolidHD collection. According to him, the game’s polygon count is far too low and an HD reissue won’t mean very much.
“Metal Gear Solid 1was for the PSone,” he said. “It has a very, very low polygon count. While at the time the game was something new and refreshing, just bringing it as is into HD probably wouldn’t have that much meaning to us.

“We’re doing two and three with a certain work flow where the goal is to take that game, preserve it and introduce it to a new generation. We can’t really take that approach withMetal Gear Solid 1because it’s very dated at this point.”
Kojipro said that if his team would ever remakeMetal Gear Solid, it would be more of a re-imagining, with an updated story and enhanced gameplay.
