What ever happened to the arcade scene here in America? I wasn’t really aware of arcades until I was 12 or 13, and actually got into playingTime CrisisandMetal Slug. Yet for me, these games have existed only in the movie theatre or in small arcades in the mall. If you ever look at footage of Japanese arcades, they are lively, loud, and a hell of a lot more fun than American arcades....

A few new screenshots have been released forA2M’saction game,Wet. The company providing the screens isn’t A2M or a publisher. They come from the Swedish rendering studioIlluminate Labs, who have also worked on several modern games likeMirror’s Edge,Tomb Raider UnderworldandKillzone 2. These screens don’t reveal anything significant aboutWet, other than that the protagonist (Rubi) likes shooting things in mid-air, which is consistent withprevious footageof the game that portrays her as an acrobatic killer able to take out a group of enemies with a couple of revolvers and a ninja sword....

In announcing its first quarter calendar 2011 financial results, Activision Blizzard has dropped some insane statistics relating toCall of Duty. Unsurprisingly, add-on content for the series continues to do remarkably well.Black Ops‘First Strike packwas downloaded 1.4 million times within 24 hours of going live. The company says that “To date,Call of Duty: Black Opsplayers have logged more than 1.2 billion online hours of online gameplay.” The number of total unique onlineBlack Opsplayers was 33 percent greater than the total unique players ofModern Warfare 2for the first five months after each title’s release....

When it first came to light, the idea of Wii boxing made my loins quiver. Regrettably, what looked like a great idea on paper didn’t translate as well as I would have liked when it came to the boxing game found on theWii Sportspack-in. It shoves three discs onto one spot and leaves the fourth disc in a little sleeve on the booklet portion. The right hand side of the image is the International packaging. The case is bigger and was designed to contain all four discs properly. Who in their right mind thought this was a good idea?...

WhenZeno Clash Ultimate Editionhits Xbox LIVE Arcade this March, gamers are in for a heck of a deal. Atlus, the game’s publisher, tells us the game should cost “no more than 1200 MS Points.” I had a chance to preview the game — an updated version of the award-winning independent PC title — and I have to say, that’s one hell of a deal. This isn’t a direct port of the PC title, either — developer ACE Team has worked in a number of tweaks that should have even fans of the original perking up their ears....

Slap. If you’re looking to get down with some of that sweet PlayStation action on the newly announced Xperia Play phone, you’ll need to re-buy the content you may have already owned. You cannot transfer games over to the Xperia from your existing PSN account, says Sony Ericsson. “[Xperia Play owners] will have to repurchase the games, so it’s not totally integrated,” Nathan Vautier, executive director at Sony Ericsson, toldGamespot UKin an interview....

During the hands-on preview night ofBioShock 2, we learned a lot of new details about the game. Probably one of the bigger revelations about theBioShock 2that was shown was the fact that there are multiple Big Sisters now. She isn’t the central bad guy anymore, but she still is going to a tough character to fight. I got a chance to talk to Lead Level Designer JP Lebreton and Senior Designer Kent Hudson onBioShock 2and found out exactly why the Big Sister’s role in the game has changed....
