My patriotism is not limited to merely one day. And it looks like I’m not alone. Acting in the American spirit of consumerism, there are some really good promotions this week. Finally, a little bit of rain in a rather long drought. Best Buy is offering a “Buy 2 Get 3rd Free” sale on Nintendo DS games. Target went the “Buy 1 Get 1 Half Off” route and applied it to a slew of Wii games, some of which aren’t even listed in their weekly ad so that the bargain hunter in you can hunt and peck for what’s on sale....

I love me someEarthworm Jim, but the prospect of yet another re-release of the original game, even in sparkly high-definition, left me wanting. I want new Jim, not old Jim that I’ve played a thousand times before. Then I watched the above trailer and the footage of four-playerEarthworm Jimaction and, well, I’m a sucker. The games were manic enough on their own, but to add theinterferenceassistance of other players will probably turn the whole thing on its head....

I don’t really know how to describe a “joy explosion,” but I just had one upon hearing thenewsthat Square Enix (who purchased Taito) is reinventing classic retro gameElevator Action. And, boy, when I say “reinventing” I really mean “reinventing.”Elevator Action: Death Parade(best title ever!) will be a light gun arcade game that — get ready for this — features actual metal elevator doors that cover the huge video screen. The large red button next to the guns will allow players to open and close the giant doors whenever they are ready to face the on-screen shooting action....

Popular rap purveyor Eminem recorded a hit single with warbling songstress Rihanna “she did that song” Fenty called “Love The Way You Lie.” It’s a rip-roaring track with a phat beat that my chums and I enjoy very much, but how is this relevant tovideogames? Well, eagle eared (not sure if eagles have ears) listeners may have spotted that Eminem actuallynamechecksNintendo in the song! Mindblowing! “But you promised her next time you’ll show restraint,” raps the yogurt-haired musician....

Yay, double colons! Anyway, this week’s fake game comes from forumiteFarktoid, the guy responsible for yet another Dtoid fake game,Tuition. The game isZ-Day: The Zombie Wars, and it may be the only MMORPG ever concieved that I’d actually pay a monthly fee for. Not to spoil Farktoid’s incredibly detailed writeup, but it’s basically a somewhat slow-paced, nonlinear zombie survival game — and the zombies are of the slow variety, so consider it the anti-Left 4 Dead....

Tim Cain, a creator of the originalFallout, doesn’t mind what Bethesda did with the franchise. In fact, Cain likedFallout 3. He even believes, unlike the vitriol-spewingFalloutpurists, that Bethesda exhibited an understanding of the series with their first entry into the soiled and haphazard universe. “I played and finishedFallout 3as soon as it came out,” Cain toldFalloutfan siteDuck and Coverin a recent interview. “I really enjoyed the game and I think Bethesda’s designers had really done their homework....

Fist of the North Star Musou, Koei Tecmo’sDynasty Warriors-flavored take on the classic post-apocalyptic Manga franchise, has been given a Japanese release date, and quite a bold one at that. Hitting Japanese shelves on March 25, the game will go head to head withGod of War III. Is it already dead? We shall see. In addition to that, we have a batch of fresh new screens for you. They have violence in them, which is pretty cool!...

People around here have had their eye on the upcoming PS3 title calledFolklore, as its unique look and gameplay style have already made agood impression. Now it looks like a version of the game will be making its way to the Sony PSP in the near future. Kikizo says that a PlayStation Portable edition ofFolkloreis already in the works in Japan. They recalled mention ofShin Megami Tenseicreator Kouji Okada’s involvement early on when the game was still calledMonster Kingdom: Unknown Realms,so they checked with Sony to see if Okada was still involved....

Fractured Soulis a new DS title from NV3 Games and it looks like it might be worth looking into. It’s a shamelessly retro 2D shooter, sporting some pretty classic gameplay. However, there is an obligatory twist, as players switch between both DS screens in a notably cool way. Each level is split into two different maps. As players control main character Jake on one screen, a ghost of Jake performs the same actions on the other....
