Right now, having extra in the bank and no overdue bills or debt isn’t typical for an American. But American games publisher Activision is doing totally fine, with about $3 billion in cash and no debt. And, as an American, what do you do when you have money burning a hole in your pocket? You buy stuff. If you step back and look at Activision’s games offerings as a whole, there’s plenty of areas that they have down pat, like music games....

BioShockis the type of game that I wish I could forget I ever played so I could go back and experience it for the first time all over again. Thisfantastic adkind of gave me the same feeling — even though it’s basically a commercial showcasing the game’s excellent reviews, the level of detail and atmosphere in it makes it well worth the watch. I know a game has nailed atmosphere to perfection when I actually find myself thinking about going there as if it was a real place....

There’s no doubt about it, multiplayer is the gaming industry’s favoritist thing ever. If a game doesn’t have multiplayer in it these days, it almost seems incomplete. IGN isreportingon a story in theNikkei Business Dailywhich claims Japanese developers fear the end of the days of wine and roses for Nintendo’s Wii. Fears run the gamut from “Nintendo has been the only beneficiary of Wii’s success as it was able to predict demand for the console” to “the Wii is only a fad and its popularity will fade”. The same devs cite the recent Japanese slowdown in Wii sales as an indicator of the oncoming “Wiicession”....

K’NEX are fun and so isMario Kart Wii. A new collaboration brings the two together, taking Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and the gang to the world of the popular building toy sets. These officially licensed sets will hit retailers this summer and will include build-able tracks and obstacles from the game as well as the Bros. in their own karts. The karts have a pull-back motor to make ’em go, which I’m sure is something like getting a boost mushroom power-up....

In Germany two different online stores list a Kinect Lightsaber peripheral for Kinect Star Wars. What happened to “You Are The Controller” there, Microsoft? What about your controller-free future? Before we get to far it should be said that we’re not sure what to make of this yet.Amazon Germanylists a November 17 release date for the Lightsaber. Too bad there’s no pictures. Another German online shop,Promediama, lists the same thing for about the same price....

DespiteUNICO’s outrage, 2K Games launchedMafia IIlast week without a hitch. A week later, it’s announcing the release date for the first bit of downloadable content, “Jimmy’s Vendetta.” Out on September 7, the pack will cost players $9.99 for PlayStation 3 and PC, and 800 MS Points for Xbox 360. “Jimmy’s Vendetta” puts players in the shoes of a mafioso clean up guy, in a more arcade style experience featuring a slew of new missions like assassinations and car chases....
