Lux-Pain’s worm thought contest winner announced!

Okay okay, so we gaveLux-Paina 5.0 in ourofficial review. That doesn’t mean we’re above giving a copy away with a free DS carrying case. Last month as ran a competition which challenged you to acquire a photograph of a worm and then think for it, in a stupid tribute to the malicious brain-altering invertebrates ofLux-Pain‘s story. Over ten billion of you entered, but there can only be one winner. After ten days of deliberation (and by that I mean ten seconds of looking at your pictures in between wanking sessions) but I believe I have to go withAdamDuffieldfor his “Muthaf*ckin’ Worm” picture....

Marching to their own 8 bit tune

Mississippi State’s famous Maroon Marching Band plays video game music during their half time show. Themes from Halo, Legend of Zelda, Mortal Kombat and Super Mario Bros. are played while the band forms several symbols in the field such as a mushroom, a triforce and a halo symbol. Not as cool as VGL, but still pretty neat for a marching band. Band Geeks Rule!

Mario Kart power-ups appear in bike lanes

I just moved to Portland, Oregon a week ago and it became quickly apparent that this was going to be my kind of town. Between the amazing food and the charming people, it’s already feeling like home. And then I hear about something like this and my attachment goes to a whole new level. It seems that someone has taken it upon themselves to placeMario Kartpower-ups in the bike lanes along one of the streets east of the river....

Master Chief joins the Atari age in Halo 2600

As I’ve probably said before, demakes are a pretty cool thing. The idea of playingHaloon an Atari 2600 won’t cause anybody to cancel their pre-order ofReachbut it might give you a few minutes of amusement. Halo 2600is a surprisingly capable game, actually. You control Master Chief through four regions, gunning down Covenant forces while you search for the key to the next area. It’s not easy. A single shot will take you out, unless you have collected a shield which gives lets you take an extra shot before croaking....

Microsoft: Motion control will ‘become the norm’

Microsoft’s Phil Spencer believes that motion control is destined to be an obligatory part of videogames, eventually becoming as essential as multiplayer. Excuse me while I’m sick into a little bag. “Much like with multiplayer, I think it will become the norm,”claims Spencer. “If you are a racing game without multiplayer the game just didn’t sell. We think that motion control, we think voice recognition, should become a part of gaming as well....

Mimana Iyar Chronicle trailer is quite the surprise

Usually when we get trailers for RPGs and the PR fellow sending them over says something about them “being really great” it turns out that they’re the same old stuff we’ve seen before. Lots of FMV, a bit of gameplay, a swelling soundtrack and some climatic ending. Thus, when downloading the trailer for upcoming PSP RPGMimana Iyar ChronicleI was expecting to have to BS a few paragraphs about how it looked interesting....

NowOther Mhas come and gone, and I’m still hungry for some classic 2DMetroidaction.Mintroidlooks like it will deliver on that. Moore: ‘ I think the industry had past [sic] Rare by’

The former boss of the Xbox 360 (and Dreamcast) said some harsh things about UK developer Rare in the third part ofThe Guardian’sinterview with him. Moore was asked about the Xbox 360’s strengths during his reign, and this somehow led him to talk about how he feels that Rare’s skillsare “not applicable in today’s market”. “Microsoft, we’d had a tough time getting Rare back –Perfect Dark Zerowas a launch title and didn’t do as well asPerfect Dark… but we were trying all kinds of classic Rare stuff and unfortunately I think the industry had past Rare by – it’s a strong statement but what they were good at, new consumers didn’t care about anymore, and it was tough because they were trying very hard – Chris and Tim Stamper were still there – to try and recreate the glory years of Rare, which is the reason Microsoft paid a lot of money for them and I spent a lot of time getting on a train to Twycross to meet them....

New Destructoid Episode: War of the Colonial Vita Marines

Evening, ‘toiders! Time for another episode of that pesky video game show you’ve all grown to hate but watch anyway on the off chance one of us accidentally farts on camera. I can’t wait for that day. In the meantime, I learned two things from today’s episode: One, plaid is terribly unflattering on camera. And two, Max really hates the nameVita. I mean, I think it’s dumb, too, but like every other name for a video game console in history, I think we’ll get used to it....

Night vision goggles in Modern Warfare 2 are ‘a bad idea’

While many of us are still trying to decide what to make of night vision goggles being included with theModern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition, one man has alreadyreached a firm conclusion— this is going to gohorriblywrong. The Philadelphia Inquirer’s resident game correspondent, Rob Watson, has warned that he feels some will use Infinity Ward’s gift for evil instead of good. “I hate trippin’ over games with a violent angle because I know there are many people out there who believe that these videogames are the product of Satan or some such nonsense, but [night vision goggles are] a bad idea,” professes Watson....
