The game looks to be incredibly badass, and Konami is excited enough about it that there may be an entirely new franchise bearing theRISINGname. “MGS Risingis not a side story. We’re aiming for twoMetal Gear Solids, making a series out of another standard,” explains producer Shigenobu Matsuyama. RISING is going to tell us what happened to Raiden betweenMetal Gear Solid 2andMetal Gear Solid 4....

I get a real “Mr. Sparkle” vibe from this video, and it’s not necessarily a good thing. Maybe that’s just because I’m just getting intoMuscle Marchright now after months of anticipation, but I’m just not ready to see it lampooned in this way yet. The video is certainly fun in theory. I can’t deny that the bodybuilders are legit, as are the defenseless children. I like the Polar Bear too....

When games are criticized in America, the attack usually comes from some right-wing fundamentalist Christian nutcase. That’s not to say that other religions can’t get in on the fun, though. Writer Ebrahim Saifuddin believes that videogames are forbidden under Islam, and has the Holy words to back it up. Saifuddin quotes the Qur’an to get his point across, such as the worryingly all-inclusive and nonspecific: “There is a man among the people who buys discourses of distracting amusements, so that he may mislead (people) from the Way of Allah, and make a mockery of it....

All of these words are delightfully nerdy. You’ll find that they’re all inspired by videogame and manga characters. Yes, I know thatFinal Fantasy Tacticswas re-released as a PSP game. It’s just that as lover of the early disc-based consoles, I like that old school flavor…and that horrible PSP screen stretching. That’s right, the original strategy role-playing gateway drug for many is up on the PlayStation Network as a PS3 or PSOne Classic Download. They’re asking $9.99 for this ticket back to old Ivalice.
