Ride skateboard is more than a plastic videogame peripheral

TheTony Hawk: Rideskateboardis more than just another plastic videogame peripheral. According to Robobmodo’s John Tsui, it’s a benchmark. TheRideperipheral will inspire developers and “usher a next generation of controllers.” It’s not a gimmick. “It’s a very enhanced piece of machinery,” Tsui toldGI.bizin a recent interview. “This is the most advanced peripheral on the market. It really is going to usher a next generation of controllers for games.” “The other thing is that this is an advanced piece of software and hardware put together – this is a full package – and when people see how tightly integrated it is, what a great experience it is, people will pay the right price for it,” he said....

Robots in WWI: Toy Soldier’s ‘Invasion’ add-on

I’m of the opinion that you can improve just about anything by adding robots. That includes World War I, and taking it one step further, videogames about World War I in which army miniatures duke it out. Videogames like Signal Studios’Toy Soldiers. Here’s a rockin’ trailer for the upcoming add-on dubbed “Invasion.” Currently, it has neither a date or price — but it looks awesome! In fact, I feel oddly compelled to getToy Soldiersright here and now, thanks to this video....

Save on zombie-centric Xbox LIVE content this week

It seems like there was just a zombie-themed sale on Xbox LIVE not long ago. Maybe we’ve been so bombarded with zombies lately that I can’t keep my head straight. In any case, all week long you’re able to save on the following items: A decent selection, but some of this content is so old that I fear most of you will have already purchased the ones worth getting. Or am I underestimating the number of you who are willing to wait it out for a sale?...

Scandal: Gamecock’s Harry Miller announces support for ESA incumbent

Back in May,Gamecock’s Mike Wilson announced he was running for president of the ESAagainst the man currently holding the post, Mike Gallagher. The announcement drew many a raised eyebrow, especially considering all the recent departures and companies such asActivision bowing out of E3. Whether you agreed or disagreed with Wilson running, it certainly seemed like the ESA situation was ripe for change. It was announced today that Gamecock president and Head of Development Harry Miller will be supporting the incumbent rather than Wilson, raising eyebrows even further and making me glad I’m not in the Gamecock offices (I assume if I was I could cut the tension with a knife)....

Section 8 PS3 launches on PSN today

Section 8, previously available on Xbox 360 and PC, has finally made its way to the PS3. The game will be launching as a PlayStation Network download later today. Here are some screenshots and footage to get your interested. Unlike the Xbox 360 and PC versions, SouthPeak is not publishing on the PS3. The game is being distributed directly by developer TimeGate. The original game was pretty good for what it was, its only issue of course being that not too many people heard of it, which isn’t great for a game so reliant on multiplayer....

Shane Kim: Portable Xbox a matter of ‘when’

While it’s always been assumed that Microsoft would one day be unable to resist the opportunity to stick its big unwanted nose in portable gaming, the Xbox platform holder has often shied away from talking about such possibilities.Until now, that is. Shane Kim has been chatting about the potential of portable Xbox gaming, calling it a matter of “when” and not “if.” “For us, it’s a matter of focusing on ‘when,’ because if we chased after a mobile or handheld opportunity, we would not have the resources and ability to do things like … Project Natal,” the corporate VP tellsKikizo....

Shiny founder, Dave Perry, thinks UMD needs to take a long walk on a short pier

I’ve never been a big fan of the format, but I’m not Earthworm Jim’s daddy. Speaking withGamesIndustry.biz, Shiny founder Dave Perry had a few choice words about Sony’s PSP and the UMD format — mainly that it’s a waste of money, time, and investment. Perry told GamesIndustry.biz that Sony “need to restart the PSP program,” and that the recent PSP remodel was a case of them putting their “head in the sand....

SingStar ABBA is SingStar with ABBA

Ifyesterday’s announcementofSingStar Countrywasn’t enough to wet your whistle, perhaps this exciting addition to theSingStarfamily will. Today, Sony has announcedSingStar ABBAfor the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. Unlike the country title,SingStar ABBAwill focus around a singular music group – ABBA. It’s an interesting move, considering that I only have the slightest idea of who ABBA is. Before this article I thought ABBA was an association to help those who can’t concentrate on anything for an extended period of time....
