They always say how it’s what you don’t see that’s truly frightening. I’d say that logic extends to videogame trailers, based on this new one for Xbox LIVE Arcade platformerLimbo. They purposely cut out all of the — what I assume are gruesome — in-game deaths right before they would naturally occur. The end result is goddamn chilling. I can’t say for sure what losing inLimbolooks like, but according to my imagination, it’s a pretty messed-up sight to witness....

Time Crisis 4looks pretty and has enough tiny robotic spiders to make people forget all aboutRunaway, but that clip up there worries us. Did you notice the bits where the game apparently becomes an FPS, and the trailer paints the entire thing as a revolutionary leap on par with women’s suffrage or the Emancipation Proclamation?Maybe it’s just me, but those sections lack any horizontal or vertical perspective shifting. It’s interesting that you may strafe left and right, but are we to believe you won’t be able to look up, down, left or right?...

Walk into a local game shop and pick up a copy of theLegend of Zelda: Twilight Princessofficial stategy guide, you cheater. Go on, I’ll wait. The official word on that one is that it’s back ordered, sucka. You’ll never figure out what to do with that damned cat. I thought I’d seen some pretty pimp setups until we caught a glimpse ofthis guy’splace. Featuring 35 amplifiers, 37 speakers, and a wealth of sources and processing devices, the room you see here looks more like a meeting of the Magi inEvangelionthan it does a home theater. That dog looks pretty comfortable, though. Youd think that a guy with enough money to put something like this together (not to mention money enough to own a standalone Blu-ray player in addition to his PS3,) would have shelled out a few extra bucks in order to supplement this haven of sensory delight with more than one gaming console....

A new video is doing the rounds that shows off a little bit of the canceledAliensRPG from Obsidian. The game had been in development since man first learned to walk upright, but Sega pulled the plug shortly after the announcement ofAliens vs. Predator. This new footage has been confirmed as real, so check it out. It doesn’t show very much, mostly thanks to how dark the footage is, but it definitely has something of aMass Effectvibe to it, with third-person shooting as opposed to any turn-based shenanigans....

You may think you read that title wrong, but at this year’sEmbedded Systems Conferencein Silicon Valley aims to do just that. In a panel hosted by Allan Yogasingam, an analyst with TechOnline,the console’s fallwill be picked apart and explained, which sounds like it could be a pretty interesting event to attend. We’ve chatted about the Virtual Boy on RetroforceGo! (and how getting a throbbing headache while using it is pretty much a given), and I’m sad to say that while the idea was a cool one, the execution was definitely … erm … challenged....

Another day, another Kinect hack for the PC. A couple of people at the MIT Media Lab Fluid Interfaces Group created a way to let Javascript work with Kinect. you may use it to select links, scroll pages, scroll through a list of options and pan & zoom on any website. All these tech demos are nice, but of course most of you won’t ever use it right now. That doesn’t mean the availabilty and the open source nature of the Kinect hacks won’t have any purpose....

A game that takes place during World War II thatisn’ta first-person shooter? Can they … can they do that? Yes, actually, they can. And by “they,” I am of course referring to Replay Studios and its upcoming stealth game,Velvet Assassin. If you’re unfamiliar withVelvet Assassin, you’ll want to read up onNick’s experiencewith the game. Up until this point, we weren’t exactly sure whenVelvet Assassinwould be released, and we still don’t have a specific date, but we do know that it’ll be out on Xbox 360 and PC sometime this fall....

Spike released a new teaser today for some mysterious game by 2K. No details were released but we were promised the full reveal during the VGAs on December 12. So,Sonic the Hedgehog 4was announced at midnight. After much teasing, it was revealed thatProject Needlemousewould become the official sequel toSonic 3, continuing where the 16-bit game left off to provide us with an honest-to-goodness 2D platformer. No more silly furry comrades, no more bad music, and no more Z-grade JRPG narratives. So of course, everybody complained about it. Wah, it’s episodic! Wah, the Sonic cycle!
