During our interview with 2K Marin concerningBioShock 2, we couldn’t resist asking about fanboyism and the console wars.BioShockwas, itself, at the center of a battle between Xbox 360 loyalists and Sony insurgents, as its prior 360 exclusivity made it a prime target for the latter. Until, of course, it was released on the PS3. Then the PS3 fanboys claimed it was brilliant, and not rubbish like they had done before....
In today’s exclusive look we bring you another experimental unit from the upcomingSupreme Commander 2, the “Pulinsmash.” The massive unit spins its arms to create a vortex, which in turn sucks up nearyby enemy units. The first unit it holds suspended, the second is pulled in and smashes against the first, destroying it. The Pulinsmash can pick up all manner of units, from tanks to passing enemy aircraft. “Don’t forget to hug your mom and tell her you love her,” adds Gas Powered Games’ Chris Taylor....

A new game calledAlien Jihadis coming to PC, iOS, Android and “home consoles” this year, and it’s generated controversy before it’s even had a chance to show anything. Alien Jihadis a rather heavy handed satire game with social networking elements. While it’s been designed to “bring back the simplicity and instant thrill of the great arcade shooters from the 1980’s and the FMV games of the early 90’s,” the ability to share scores on sites like Facebook is a big part of the experience....
We love the Wii. Its innovative control scheme, excellent graphical output, and capacity to carry nothing but the highest grade of software has certainly smitten the majority of us. Of course, the first-party titles are what really make the machine grand – and that’s why we’re excited about Colin Sebastian’s hunch that a newZeldagame will hit in 2009. Sebastian is an analyst at Lazard Capital Markets. He’s not as popular asMichael Pachterquite yet, but it appears as though he is blazing a trail for instant Internet stardom....

Does your PSP need another Japanese RPG? Then fear not, friends, because Atlus has you covered. A brand new RPG by the name ofHexyz Forcehas been announced today, and it looks as Japanese as Old St. F*ck! The game’s developed by Sting (not the singer), who you may remember as the fiends behindKnights in the Nightmare. It’s being billed as “one of the most narrative-driven portable RPGs of all time” with two campaigns to play through....
Atlus’ newest title,Rondo of Swords(yay for nerdy musical terms!), is a fantasy strategy RPG with branching storylines, multiple endings, and of course touchscreen control. Savvy gamers will know this as a localization of Success’Ituwari no Rondo. TheRoSpress release doesn’t say much about the game, but it does talk a bit about the touchscreen combat mechanic. Something called Route Maneuvers allow you to hit all enemies in your path and enhance your attack or defense....
I’ll admit I was cynical aboutBioShock 2when I heard it was announced, but this brand new trailer really does help warm me to 2K Marin’s follow-up to the gorgeous 2007 shooter. It looks intense, sounds creepy, and appears to have a story that might do the original game justice. The brand new footage shows off some fresh enemies and weaponry, not to mention hint at the game’s ultimate villain, some female who appears to be mocking the Big Daddy as he fights to defend Rapture....
Nary three months after theBioShock 2announcement, Take-Two Interactive chairman and talking head Strauss Zelnick casually mentioned to investors in a conference call thatBioShock 3is on its way. Speaking about the recently-announced, Verbinksi-directedBioShockmovie, Zelnick said, “It’s more likely it would be released coincident withBioShock 3.” While I can’t necessarily blame Take-Two for trying to make some bank on an amazing IP, I have to admit that this is akin to a dagger in the kidney....
Braidcreator Jonathan Blow hasrevealed a teaser sitefor his brand new gameThe Witness. The page is about as bare-bones as you can get, but it contains a scant smattering of details about what is sure to be yet another critical darling that will be held up in the “games as art” debate for many moons to come. According to this site,The Witnessis “an exploration-puzzle game on an uninhabited island.” The game is set for release “on multiple platforms — whatever makes sense in late 2011, when the game will hopefully be finished....
Evil publisher Activision has released a brand new trailer for its inevitable record-breaker,Call of Duty: Black Ops. It shows off the various customization options available to players in the multiplayer mode, and it’s looking pretty hot. I’ve ragged on Treyarch in the past, but with the currency system detailed in the video, it looks like the studio is really making its mark on the series, and that’s a great thing. I’m rather keen on checking outBlack Opsand expect a good one....
