The Sony Torne is a digital tuner and recorder for terrestrial television broadcasts for the PS3. It makes the PS3 a DVR with full tunning and scheduling capabilities. The Torne device is USB, and has enough number crunching power to record shows even while you’re gaming or playing PS3. What’s cool is that your recorded media can even be dumped to a memory stick and played on your PSP. It will cost 9,980 yen, or roughly $100, when it is launched in March....
Nintendo’s Spanish division, Nintendo Ibérica, was approached by a hacker who says he had managed to acquire a database of personal information on about 4,000 of Nintendo’s customers. This guy was looking to blackmail Nintendo with this database, threatening to post the personal info on an Internet forum and lodge a complaint with Spain’s Data Protection Agency if his demands were not met. His demands were not met. Hacker guy decided to start posting some of the information on the Web after Nintendo declined, and soon afterward, Spanish authorities swooped in and arrested him....
TheESRB outed it, and now it’s completely official:Chrono Triggeris coming to the Wii Virtual Console next week on May 16. You’re looking at the Super Nintendo release here, so don’t expect anything to be changed for the Virtual Console. And what should be changed, anyhow? Not much — the game’s a classic, one of the best role-playing games of its generation, and perhaps of all time. Hell, I don’t even play JRGPs generally, andChrono Triggeris one of the few I’ve played from start to finish....

Team Meat’s massive support for the PC version ofSuper Meat Boywill become clear this January, when a huge update will be made available. The update will include a “fully supported” level editor, which will allow you to create using anything they’ve seen in the game (outside of the big bosses). Levels can also be created and locked for specific characters. The online level portal is also being added, a feature where creators can upload their levels for the world to play....
During a presentation at Capcom’s Captivate press event last week, producer Yoshinori Ono revealed that Xbox 360 gamers will soon be able to dress up their Avatars as their favoriteSuper Street Fighter IVcharacters. A handful of character outfits have been confirmed: Dudley, El Fuerte, Crimson Viper, Juri, DeeJay, Ryu, Cody, Guy, Chun Li, Abel, Juri, Guile, Akuma, Makoto, and Ibuki have all made the cut. No word on pricing or when they’ll hit the Avatar Marketplace, but withSuper Street Fighter IVscheduled to ship next week, there’s no doubt they’re just around the corner....
Despite reports, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 was actually released in Japan sometime in 2005. With this in mind, Microsoft took over a relatively large portion of the Tokyo Game Show floor this year, which surprisingly drew consistent traffic on the days that I attended. Like much of TGS this year, there were no major surprises here other than the fact that there were Japanese people lined up to playHalo 3. You know, as much as Sega has lost the luster of its glory years, I grew up with that big blue logo, and I still have this sort of twisted love for the company that thoughtShadow The Hedgehogwas a good idea for a game.
