Free App of the Day: Superstar Chefs

Donut Games is one of my favorite iPhone developers. It does a lot of “casual” stuff, but it consistently demonstrates that “casual” doesn’t have to mean “crap”, andSuperstar Chefsis a fine example. This arcade-style platformer has been free since the dawn of time, so you can download it whenever you can. I highly recommend that you do, as well. Playing as a whimsical chef, the aim is to collect fruit while avoiding water, spikes and a number of bizarre enemies....

GC 10: Dating sites helped shape Hunted’s multiplayer

Before any of you watch this video, let me just say that Maxx Kaufman was brilliant. Our first interview went to pieces, we recorded over our second, I messed up our third and what you are about to watch is our fourth attempt. While both myself and Maxx, Game Director forHunted, had bad cases of deja vu, he was more than obliging the entire time. To be honest, I think he was rather sick of me by the end of it all, but at least he hid it well!...

Get your Flo on: Diner Dash hits Xbox LIVE on November 18

You’ve played it on your PC, mobile phone, and then your mobile phone again. But on November 18,Diner Dashwill be making its way to Xbox LIVE Arcade, Hudson Entertainment tells us today. It’ll be the same diner dash you’ve come to know and (perhaps) love, with players controlling the hard-working waitress, Flo, as she seats, feeds, and cleans up after demanding diner patrons. Of course, it’s updated with HD graphics, and adds in a new eight-person multiplayer mode, a Team Dash, and a one-on-one head-to-head battle mode....

Gibson to promo Spook Country in Second Life; skeet, skeet, 404 file not found

With what can only be described as Gibson-ian clairvoyance, William Gibson — the man behind almost every important cyberpunk novel of the last century — isset to promotehis new literary ventureSpook Countrywithin the silicon walls ofSecond Life, a game he’s indirectly (yet almost entirely) responsible for. While I seem to have missed all the chapters inNeuromancerwhere Molly has to cut her way through an army of sexual deviants in badger costumes,Second Lifehas always aimed to create the sort of interactive existence Gibson envisioned....

God himself may have laughed, but Neil Diamond and Sony are no fans of parody

If there’s one thing that’s a given in life, it has been to expect the unexpected. Live long enough, and you’ll see pairings of people, places, and things that you’d never dream of being mentioned in the same sentence. Such is the humorous case of a small blog called theHardcore Christian Gamers Association, a 70’s music icon, and Sony. While Ican’t officially confirm anything at this point (damn Internet Matlocks insurance), the story goes a little something like this: Drew Koehler, host of the podcast for the above mentioned site, decides that it would be humorous to create a parody of Neil Diamond’s “Hello Again” song as a way of joining in on theHalohysteria....

GRiD patch is ready to download for PC-DVD

GRiD‘s first patch has just hit the PC and can bedownloaded hereif you’re a racing fan who also … I don’t know … really enjoys patching software? It’s hard to be irreverent all the time. The patch is only available for the PC-DVD version of the game at the time of writing, meaning those who downloaded the game via Steam, Metaboli or Direct2Drive will have to wait a little longer. Codemasters promises that a patch for those versions will arrive “within days....

Guitar Hero III details revealed: online play, wireless guitars confirmed

WhenGuitar Hero IIIwas quietly (and maybe accidentally)announced last weekno other information was available other than the fact that it would be released for all major consoles (Wii, PlayStation 2/3, Xbox 360). Now, according to aGamespotinterview with Red Octane, some interesting details about this anticipated sequel have been revealed. First off, I would have bet my first born child that the chance of Wii online support was slim to none. To my chagrin, the game is now confirmed to not only include some form of online play, but downloadable content as well....

Hackers are even picking on Modern Warfare Reflex Edition

Modern Warfare Reflex Edition, the Wii hand-me-down version of Activision’s popularCall of Dutytitle, shares at least one major issue with its bigger brothers — hackers have torn it to pieces. Yes, even the Wii version ofModern Warfarecan’t find refuge from cheaters and glitchers, as the above video demonstrates. If you get into a match that’s been violated by a cheeky fiddler, then your match will look a little like this — sheer, unadulterated chaos....

Half that glitters: 56% of Xbox Live members are Gold

Suckers! Kidding: I pay for it, too. I don’t necessarily like it, but what can you do. I’d love to think that part of that $59.99 I drop a couple times a month goes to the servers, upkeep, and other services that they say our Gold fee is going toward. But I guess not. Regardless, a Microsoft internal document thatCVGgot ahold of says that 56% of worldwide Xbox Live members are Gold....

Heh, they said ‘Uranus’: Rocketmen expansion coming next week

Uranus — the planet’s name never gets old. As long as it exists in the universe, we will all be 11-years-old, and the art of comedy will never die. Capcom clearly understands this, employing the timeless joke when naming their Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network expansion,Rocketmen: It Came From Uranus. The expansion to the already available digitally-distributedRocketmen: Axis of Evilwill include three new weapons, two new secondary weapons (including a robotic falcon, which in and of itself is killer to the max), and three new levels....
