Preview: Masters of the Broken World

The story behindMasters of the Broken Worldis a fascinating one. Snowberry Connection, an international independent production fund that has been responsible for games such asMount & Blade: With Fire & Sword, picked up aprototypeversion from Russian designer Alexey Bokulev and hooked him up with Unicorn Games Studio to create a proper remake for the international market. Then they funded the entire production and a booth at gamescom, where I took the time to see what this game was about....

Prey 2’s debut trailer is terribly turbulent

I’m still getting over the fact that there will actually be aPrey 2, and that it won’t take another decade to make. But Bethesda released its debut trailer for the game, so it’s obviously going to happen. Just don’t expect any gameplay in this trailer. Does anyone remember howPreyended? From what I recall, it was a bit open-ended with hints of a bigger conflict on Earth involving giant portals, which is what this trailer seems to reflect....

As reported, Volition’s next outing in itsRed Factionuniverse will beRed Faction: Armageddon. Now, just about a week before E3, we get our first look at the game. Rein: Unreal Tournament 3 PS3 delay means more maps

Heartbrokenby the delay of the PlayStation 3 version of Unreal Tournament 3, I fired an e-mail over to Epic’s Mark Rein to see just what was up. Not long after I hit send, Rein replied, partially with the “As a public company…” spiel he dropped on the Epic forums earlier today. But there’s sunshine through the rain says, uh … Rein. “In addition, there is some good news,” he says, “as a little extra time in development means now the PS3 version will have all of the same maps as the PC version, whereas we previous expected to ship fewer maps on [the] console....

Reminder: Bitejacker is out and it’s disturbingly fun

We’ve mentionedBitejackertwice before on the site. It’s a free browser game based around the Revision3 showBytejackerand the zombie apocalypse. And ridiculous nods to independent games. It’s rad. Multiple times now, I’ve unintentionally playedBitejackerfor more than an hour. I honestly cannot recall the last time a web game was able to pull me in so easily. Especially ones about zombies, which have in many ways been given a bad rap courtesy of crappy flash games everywhere....

Retailer not stocking the PSPgo

Despite the fact that Sony will sell downloadable PSP games for the same price as their UMD counterparts, the digital-only status of the PSPgo has still managed to rub some retailers up the wrong way. Chief among them is Nedgame, a leading Dutch retailer that hasrefused to stockthe PSPgo when it launches on October 1. Nedgame will continue to support previous PSP models like the PSP 3000, but the latest Sony handheld has been officially boycotted, and I’m sure we can all guess why a retailer that deals in secondhand games would have a problem with a disc-less system....

The team behind the patch has put up some new screens andsoundtrack samples on the official site to provetheir dedication to the project. I imported this game a while back, and I loved it so much that I ended up buying it a again for a few friends....

Review: Battlefield 1943

Electronic Arts Digital Illusion CE’sBattlefield 1943is a bite-sized downloadable title based upon the foundation of theBattlefieldseries. In the game, two teams compete for flags with legs, tanks, airplanes and Jeeps. Battles are fierce and often decided by a couple of stragglers who decided to take a base after a lone defender leaves his post in search of greater glory. The retail boxed versions ofBattlefieldkeep coming. Obviously, shooter fans aren’t tired of playing nice with each other or getting bored with the dated formula the titles use....
