Dante’s Inferno isn’t trying to be unique

Dante’s Infernolead developer Jonathan Knight isn’t hoping tobreak any boundarieswith his upcoming action title. According to him, the aim ofInfernois to simply be an action game, and provide the best experience it can in an established and popular genre. “I’d say we’re working pretty squarely in this action adventure fighting genre,” says Knight. “It’s a great genre, we love the genre, and it’s more important to us to deliver a great game in that established genre than it is to particularly branch out and try too many new things....

Deal North Weekend Edition: Target sales on games

When I create these Deal listings I usually pick some of the best stuff that ends up in our inbox or on my desk. I’m loyal to no outlet, though I do prefer Amazon for their free shipping (yay for Amazon Prime) and no tax. But Target wins today with several good deals that will be available in-store this weekend. There’s no Target affiliation here. I’m honestly more of a Walmart guy....

Destructoid movie review: Max Payne lacks sweet gunfights, substance

Max Payne(the game) has a deep plot about drugs and crime, themes of loss and revenge, a some what subtle background in Norse mythology, and gunfights — lots and lots of slow motion, totally awesome gunfights. Max Payne(the movie) has a plot about government super-soldiers, no apparent themes whatsoever, a complete and total lack of subtlety about its Norse mythological influences, and two — count them — two, gunfights. Fine maybe its two and a half gunfights, but that still makesMax Paynea terrible movie, and an insult to a game that was wonderfully melodramatic and — I can’t stress this enough —full of gunfights....

Does Quest for Booty confirm the existence of a new Ratchet & Clank game?

Next week, Insomniac is releasingQuest for Bootyon PSN, a downloadable sequel of sorts to last year’s incredible PlayStation 3 gameRatchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. From what I hear, this expansion is short, but every bit as creative and polished as previous retail games. I, for one, cannot wait to play it! Fans of the series will love to hear that at the very end ofQuest for Booty, the following message appears:THE QUEST CONTINUES IN FALL 2009 …...

E3 09: Rogue Warrior trailer wins the gravelly voice contest

Mickey Rourke is an intimidating guy. He was scary as hell inKillshot, empathetic as hell inThe Wrestler, and generically badass as hell in this trailer for Bethesda’sRogue Warrior. The whole trailer is just pre-rendered non-gameplay footage, unfortunately, but this trailer still seems to imply several things: firstly, that the game will be at least moderately stealth-oriented, and secondly, that Mickey Rourke could kill a man through the power of his vocal cords alone....

E3 2007: Hands-on with Folklore

Due to my unspoken rule to hold off on buying new consoles until I see a library I want, I have not purchased a next gen console. 360 was getting higher on my list as far as titles go, but I’m still a little reserved about owning the “shooter box”. Wii seemed fun, but I knew that party titles and Mario weren’t enough to make me invest in a system. PS3 was out of the question – I wanted to play almost nothing on it and the price point was too high....

E3: What’s going on in this Afterfall: InSanity trailer?

I can see someDead Space-like horror/adventure action, and that’s about it. The trailer is supposed to show scenes from a post-apocalyptic surface, while most of the game will be set in underground bunkers. I know it doesn’t show you that much, but bear with me. Afterfall: InSanityis a game from Polish developer Nicolas Games, and is being billed as a “hardcore survival psycho horror.” The Afterfall universe itself features an alternate history of Europe where World War II had a different conclusion and in which Hitler launched a nuclear V2 rocket at Russia in 1945....

Fable 2 tops the UK charts, manages to beat football games

Fable 2was released in the United Kingdom this Friday, and local boy Peter Molyneux will be pleased to know that it boldly swaggered into the sales chart top slot. In a list that contains bothFIFA 09andPro Evolution Soccer 2009, that’s pretty damn impressive. I was finally able to sit down and playFable 2this weekend. It’s bloody good and I have no reason to complain about the Xbox 360 exclusive’s number one position....
