UK Charts: Dynasty Warriors 7 makes top ten!

In news that has shocked eventhishardcoreDynasty Warriorsfan,Dynasty Warriors 7made it to number ten in the UK Charts this week! This would be the first major sales success for Omega Force outside of Japan since … well … forever. Seriously cool news, though. I had a feelingDW7would do better than usual, but not by this amount. I’m pleased to see one of my favorite games doing so well, and thus offer my congratulations....

Videogame weaponry

It’s no news that we here at Destructoid are dorks without lives. We play and report news on videogames all day long, every day of the week, sitting closed up in our dark rooms with the blinds pulled down, so as to not let any sunlight fall on our pale, vampire-like skin. We have lost families, girlfriends, and indeed, even our very souls to our fascination with the gaming industry....

WhatTheyPlay.com breaks down games for parents

ESRB ratings on videogames aren’t always enough for some parents. While a Mature rating is a clear indicator that a 7-year-old shouldn’t be playing the title, a Teen rating may have a full range of questionable content, and ESRB ratings don’t do a good job of conveying exactly what that content is. WhatTheyPlayis a newly launched Web site that gives parents the skinny on popular games. Straight forward reviews written by the site’s staff give detailed information on what the game is about as well as what kind of content it contains....

World of Warcraft running on an iPad?

Game designer Dave Perry posted a photo to his blog ofWorld of Warcrafton an iPad. It’s a test of theGaikaicloud server system running over a standard WiFi connection. Perry comments that they’re, “trying just about every genre of game, on every device possible” and this is pretty strong evidence to support that statement. It’s one of those things where I have a hard time imagining the practical limitations of trying to actually play this on that device but think it’s neat nonetheless....

WoW discrimination at the workplace? MMO fans need not apply

We’ve all experienced the joys of sexual and racial discrimination, but now we have a new prejudice just in time for Christmas —MMO discrimination! Yes, according to one report, an un-named company has been hiring people based upon whether or not they are MMO players. That’s brilliant, in a somewhat twisted way. A former MMO-nut met a recruiter working within the online media industry when he happened to mention that he once had something of an MMO obsession, being a big fan of the genre in the early 2000s....

Xbox division sees stunning loss; MS scoffs, buys Jupiter

According tothis articleat Game|Life, Microsoft’s Xbox division has posted a $1.89 billion loss for the fiscal year, a 47% increase over the previous year’s losses. Attributed mainly to the donkey-chokingly huge wad of cash MS has set aside to cover their ass in the Red Ring O’ Death debacle, the tremendous loss places Microsoft well ahead of both Sony and Nintendo in the race to make accountants the world over cry blood....

Yahoo uses “the Internet” as a source

Face and palm. So here’s the story, but I suggest watching the video below before you dive in. Yahoo does gaming news and vids, and ThinkGeeksometimes sells stuff. What happens when the two collide? Yahoo looks like a bunch of idiots. SeeThinkGeek is sellingsome”new” Dreamcasts; as in Dreamcasts that hadn’t been opened and were in boxes. The good folks over at Yahoo saw this and assumed that Sega had rereleased the Dreamcast for $99 so that it could compete against the new $99 PS2 because that is clearly how the gaming industry works....

You can tip over Brahmin in Fallout 3 and other facts

I can’t be the only one who didn’t know you could tip over Brahmin inFallout 3by sneaking up and “activating” them. Right? Right!?! Well, to my credit, I was aware that the game’s turn-based VATS combat system was influenced by Crash Mode replays inBurnout. You too can prove your gaming knowledge cred or lack thereof by checking out Game Informer’sFallout 3edition of Tidbits. As far as I can tell, some of thefactoids they listhave gone previously undisclosed by Bethesda, while others can be found with a quick Google search....

A look at Mad Catz’ PS3 MW2-themed wireless headset

Mad Catz’Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2-themed PS3 communicator doesn’t harnessthe power of the throatlike its Xbox 360 counterpart does. This one is just a light, wireless Bluetooth device with a cool coat of paint. No frills or oddities; just boring ol’ microphone here. If you’re an asshole who talks on the cell-phone while driving (note: hands-free doesn’t make me feel different about you), you’ve no doubt used a communicator like this before....

A powerful ally for narrative: The audio of Bad Company 2

The multiplayer demo for DICE’s upcoming war FPS,Battlefield: Bad Company 2,has been out for a while now, and as the release date approaches, people are eating up the one-map demo and finding themselves consumed despite the lack of content. I should know; I’m one of them. It’s no surprise, really.
