Check out some gorgeous new El Shaddai screens

Here’s a batch of new screens for the upcoming brawler/platformerEl Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron. The art style is still as pretty as you remember it, so that’s good! I’m really looking forward to checking out the full game, especially an English version so I know how to play it properly. I’m keen to see of its difficulty is of the “tough but fair” or the “tough for tough’s sake” variety, as my time with the demo didn’t offer up a solid answer....

Check out this Covenant Energy Sword replica prototype

Do you know why the Covenant Energy Sword is one of the most powerful weapons inHalo 3? I don’t either. It has something to do with plasma contained in the handle, and magnetic fields or some technical crap. I think they look like fancy corn on the cob skewers! I’m kidding. These are pretty badass; even more so when you see them in action. The swords light up and even make one of nine sound effects on contact with each other....

Cliff Bleszinski charms in latest Bulletpoints video

Epic Games’ series of developer diaries forBulletstormhave been pretty entertaining up to this point. Even if I hadn’t been barraged with constant reminders of how many times the game uses the word “f–k” (and speaking as someone who tends to say “f–k” a lot, it’s a lot of “f–king times), these videos would pretty clearly sum up what I would be getting myself into if I bought a copy ofBulletstorm....

CliffyB to exec produce GoW movie; maybe there’s hope for this one …

CliffyB, the man behind such Epic hits asUnreal,Unreal TournamentandGears of Warhas apparentlybeen tapped to be the executive producer for the upcomingGears of Warmovie. Whether that means he’ll actually be providing creative input or if he’ll just be on-set providing moral support remains to be seen, but adding C-Bizzle to the roster of people involved in this thing can only help its chances of achieving the coveted quality-game-movie status. Gears of Waris on par with theHaloseries for an epic amount of backstory, and the common hypothesis is that it could, in fact, become an excellent film....

Crazy Hot Dogs Tailgate Party: Hot dogs are apparently “crazy” now

It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for a game with a good title. Or, if I can’t have a good title, give me areally weird oneto grab my attention. Just string together a set of words with (at best) tenuous links between them and my ears will immediately perk up. Like, “Zany Monkey Fart Coliseum,” or “Autoerotic Asphyxiation Racers.” Damn. I should get a job titling games. At any rate, this isCrazy Hot Dogs Tailgate Party, a cell phone game arriving on Verizon phones this week....

Cryptic still negotiating Champions Online release with MS

The PC version ofChampions Onlinelaunches September 1st. The Xbox 360 version of the MMO — once listed to hit day and date with the PC version — is rarely mentioned. Developer Cryptic Studios doesn’t talk about the port and it hasn’t been shown to press at public events. I spoke with Cryptic boss Jack Emmert during a demonstration forChampions OnlineatGen Con ’09and pressed for details about the Xbox 360 title. He suggests that the apparent delay has something to do with the Microsoft on the business end....

Cursed Crusade gets website, possible release date

The very promisingCursed Crusadegotan official websiteand a potential release date today. As a word of warning, don’t have your volume up high as I did when visiting the site. I damn near shat myself. As far as the release date goes,Amazonis the bean-spiller, pegging it for a July 26 launch. That’s no official confirmation, but retailers are right more often than wrong, and the site says to expect the game in “Summer 2011....

Dead Rising 2’s launch trailer sets the mood

Here isthetrailer to watch, if you’re at all looking intoDead Rising 2. This video goes slightly deeper into the game’s narrative than the recentteaser forCase Westdid — Chuck Greene is being framed by someone for the outbreak, apparently. I wasn’t so sure that was one of the main story threads, but based on the way this trailer is cut, it seems like it will be. Capcom even brought on the voice actor who does narration for exploitation film trailers in my dreams....

Dead Space turns the lights down low for romance

EA releasedDead Space 2yesterday. While they were at it, they released this developer diary featuring the lighting ofDead Space 2. Here you may see the way in which they maintain the mood with both dim and brighter lighting and all sorts of other visual trickery. While I think just about everybody can notice the emphasis placed on light in horror games andDead Spacein particular, hearing the level of thought and of the approach taken to things which are typically just thought of as “details” intrigues me....

Debut trailer for Henry Hatsworth and the Puzzling Adventure

Last month, I went to the EA Showcase to preview over 30 games from EA. Out of all of the games I saw,Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventurewas myfavorite game of the show. The platforming and puzzle elements are brought together marvelously and the game is extremely fun.The first trailer for the game has finally been released, and unfortunately, it doesn’t show the best part of the game. You do get to see the special mech power-up that Henry gets, but what’s not shown is the amount of firepower it has....

Destructoid interview: Grillin’ Capcom’s Seth Killian

I apologize upfront for this post’s less-than-stellar title. We already did a post calledDestructoid interview: Capcom’s Seth Killiana few months ago, so I had to come up with something to set this one apart, even if that means applying aRappin Rodney-quality rhyme to the action. Capcom is such a dynamic company — so constant with new releases, announcements, and controversial games that despite that fact that we heard from Seth not that long ago, I still had plenty of new stuff to ask him....

Destructoid Interview: Infinite Interactive’s Steve Fawkner

Steve Fawkner remembered Nick Chester from way before this interview was conducted, when Nick Made himself memorable at Capcom’s press event in Las Vegas when he methodically snuck around and named all of the Neopets “Hep C” inNeopets Puzzle Adventure. Yeah, I work for this guy. Can you imagine the crap I get asked to do around the office? Despite his previous knowledge of Nick Chester’s mischief, Steve (CEO of Infinite Interactive) agreed to sit down with us and talk aboutPuzzle Quest: Galactrix, including how the game has changed and how its stayed the same, what we can expect from the story, and what Drong would look like flying a spaceship....

Destructoid interview: Warhammer Online

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoningis one of the more high-profile MMOs to have surfaced in the post-Warcraftboom. With both the power of Games Workshop and Electronic Arts behind it, developer EA Mythic had one of the best chances to makeWARlast in a genre where only the strong survive, and so far things are going very well indeed. With a successfulWARlaunch under its belt, EA Mythic very kindly granted Destructoid some time with senior designer Josh Drescher to discuss how the game’s doing so far, what it’s like working with theWarhammerlicense and why some gamers might find the Witch Hunter overpowered....
