E3 08: Live blogging the Activision ‘not-E3’ press conference

I’m here at the Viviana Cathedral in Los Angeles, waiting patiently for the Activision press conference to start. To be clear, this isnotan E3 press conference; Activision has snubbed their nose at the ESA and have decided to hold their own event, not far from the Los Angeles convention center where this year’s E3 is taking place. I’ve just been informed that the press conference will begin shortly, so hit the jump and stay tuned for all of the juicy details....

Electric laser liquorish: Bit.Trip FATE teaser image

Hot off the presses, we have our first look at what the upcoming fifth game in theBit.Tripseries. What do you see? I see a living laser winding its way between extremes; hot and cold, light and dark, danger and safety. I see a place where someone tried to harness, or at least alter nature, but seeing as there is no one around, things probably didn’t go as planned. This image makes me feel trapped, yet energized, eager to stretch out within the confines of this strange subterranean dwelling....

Fan-made Metroid manga looks freaking fantastic

I’m really impressed with this manga. Most of it’s in color, and all of it looks awesome. The story is pretty weird; there’s a whole lot of words, but nothing really happens. That’s OK though. As far as free online comics go, you can’t ask for much more than this. As with so many things that Nintendo fans produce, I have to wonder why Nintendo of America doesn’t make use of this comic....

First of four NBA 2K9 teasers features Paul Pierce ownage

I’m so glad that the New York Giants won the Super Bowl this year. If the Patriots had beaten them, like everyone expected and predicted, then the blather of Boston being “Titletown” would never have stopped once the Celtics thrashed the Los Angeles Lakers in this year’s NBA Finals. To commemorate the Celtics’ victory, 2K Sports has put out a teaser trailer forNBA 2K9, and it looks pretty damn good....

First Person Shooter; art imitating life imitating art imitating warfare

Many of you don’t know this, but I was once an aspiring actor. Admittedly, I did it mainly to score with girls who had turned to drama to escape a troubled home life, but after realizing that my ability to emote boiled down to “surly”, and “surly with puppies”, I was forced to give up my SAG card and get a real job. A real job writing d*ck jokes about video games....

Five Days to Smash Bros. Brawl: Top Five unfulfilled Brawl pipe dreams

Trying to console a child or a retarded person over the loss of a loved one is hard work. It helps to try and find ways to make the abstract emotions the grieving party is experiencing into concrete, tangible things that they can better understand and deal with. One utilization of this technique in grief therapy is to give the child/retarded person a helium balloon, tell them to imagine all the things they want to say to their deceased loved one, put those thoughts into the balloon, and let it sail off to heaven....
