Shock: Treyarch’s Call of Duty set in the past again

Treyarch looks set to take theCall of Dutyreins again in 2010, having recentlyfor the next installment of the ludicrously popular FPS series. The team is looking for a level designer, and has indicated that, once again, its take on theCoDfranchise will be a case of not-so-modern warfare. The level designer acqired by Treyarch will need to “research subject matter for history and look of the level.” This seems to betray Treyarch’s intent to take us back to past as it did withWorld at War....

Sonic the Hedgehog getting a new voice actor

Apparently this was the massive, franchise-shattering news that Sega had promised was coming to all Sonic fans. Sonic the Hedgehog is getting a new voice actor. Not exactly the mostthrillingof megatons, is it? Still, it’s somewhat interesting due to the fact that Sonic’s new voice has some videogame pedigree to his name. Roger Craig Smith will step into the hedgehog’s vocal chords, and if you’re wondering who that is, you may know him better as either Chris Redfield fromResident Evil 5or Ezio fromAssassin’s Creed 2....

Sony: Europeans consider ‘features’ and not ‘price’

Like a petulant child making up excuses to get out of taking a bath, it seems Sony will sayanythingto dodge the issue of a price cut. A particular favorite tactic of Sony’s is to speak for the consumer, and that’s exactly what SCEE president Andrew Househas done, claiming that Europeans don’t care about price. “Not to harp on about it, but the PlayStation 3 has a ten-year life cycle and there are issues of cost and profitability,” harps House....

Sony: The key to an all-digital device is education

Yesterday you had theopportunityto read my interview with Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations and Strategic Planning. Yes, I know that he isn’t exactly the biggest name in the company, but he’s pretty damn important. He helps decide how our content gets to us, so respect the man. However, he wasn’t the only Sony exec I had the opportunity to speak to. I also spoke with John Koller, Director of Hardware Marketing....

South Korea’s President wants to compete with Nintendo, gets rightly mocked

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak has recently joined the ranks of Sony and Microsoft, regarding Nintendo with envious eyes and drawing his plans against the Wii. Jealous of Nintendo’s success in his home country, LeelamentedSouth Korea’s lack of console development. “A lot of our elementary school children have Nintendo game machines,” he whines. “Why can’t our companies develop products like that?” However, the President’s comments are met with little more than disdain from his country’s companies, as the Korean games industry found fault with the President’s words....

Star Trek Online canceled for consoles

If you were looking forward to playingStar Trek Onlinewith a home console, I have some bad news. Confirmation came down today that the game has been canceled. Speaking to videogamer.com, Cryptic Games Executive Producer Craig Zinkievich said, “It’s pretty much in the same boat as the Champions console version right now,” alluding to the similar cancellation of the developer’s other console effort. This sucks and it doesn’t. On the one hand, I don’t really want to get myself sucked into an MMO and not having access to it on my preferred way to play games would help prevent that....

Super Crap Trophy: Brawl trophy from GameStop is terrible

Theabove imageis what GameStop is offering the winner of itsSuper Smash Bros. Brawltournament. As you can see, it is the worst thing in the world. It doesn’t even have anything to do withBrawl, save for the vague and tenuous hint that the golden man in his underwear might possibly be about to engage in combat of some sort. That, or he’s about to crap his unnecessarily tight shorts because he’s realized he’s a really, really bad trophy....
