E3 08: Knights of the Old Republic MMO confirmed

In an interview withConde Nast Portfolio, EA chief executive John Riccitiello confirmed that Electronic Arts haa their hands in theKnights of the Old Republiccookie jar. We have been hearingrumorsof the title for several months now. Finally, thespeculationcan end. We’ve got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development. And the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about – in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry at the point when we get closer to tell you about it....

E3 08: Nintendo introduces Wii Sports Resort

At this morning’s Nintendo press conference (read the live bloghere!), I kept waiting for good ol’ Nintendo to pull out something magnificent after the endless barrage of “casual” games. Confused and bored byWii Music? Okay, people … here’s a brand new Zelda! ZOMG! Sadly, that never happened. In fact, I am guessing audiences left screenings ofThe Love Guruwith more positive things to say. It pains me to admit it — being the huge Nintendo fan I am — but Nintendo really disappointed a lot of people with its tepid presentation....

E3 09: No dual wielding or Equipment usage in Halo ODST

I had a meeting with Bungie yesterday where they were showing offHalo ODST’scampaign and Firefight gametype. While Paul Bertone (Bungie’s Design Director) was running through the campaign, I noticed that the weapon pick up icons weren’t showing the dual wielding options. Turns out you won’t be able to dual wield inHalo ODST. It makes sense why, as you’re playing as a regular soldier and it’s not easy to dual wield oversized weapons like the SPARTANs can....

E3: Skyward Sword’s bird game c*ck-blocks my Zelda boner

At the Nintendo’s E3 Press conference yesterday, I was nearly in tears during the all-orchestral performance of a classicZeldamedley. I wasn’t the only one. Hollie Benett, Jim Sterling, and even Dtoid’s founder and grand master Niero were fighting to keep their emotions in check. We love the Zelda games, pure and simple. That said, even things you love drop the ball sometimes, and that’s how I feel about the bird chasing segment ofLegend of Zelda: Skyward Sword....

EIEIO 2008: It’s happening, it’s cold, and I can’t talk about any games

I’m currently in Austin, Texas, location of the headquarters of Gamecock Media Group, and site ofEIEIO 2008. The event is currently taking place at Austin’s famousStubb’s Bar-B-Q, which contains a pretty open concert space, and God damn is it cold out here. Weather.com is currently reporting 37 degrees (feels like 30!), with light rain. Granted, we were shown most of the games in closed-doors settings, and there are a number of large outdoor heaters spread about the venue....

Everyday Shooter screens and video: more effective than a price drop

With all of the big budget titles shown across multiple hotels and one out of the way hangar, I don’t know if I should be surprised that I came away most impressed with a PlayStation Network title. An award-winning PC title created by one man and effectively ported over to the PlayStation 3 in three days, no less.I am, of course, talking aboutEveryday Shooter, a game which I already half-heartedlyraved aboutlast week before falling into a Red Bull-induced coma....

Extended Portal 2 co-op vid doesn’t make us want to die

There’s not much I really want to say about thisPortal 2cooperative trailer, an extended cut of what was revealed during PAX. I kind of just want you to watch it. It’s a little under two minutes you’ll be taking out of your day, and I have a feeling you’ll be happy you did. “Don’t disappoint me, or I’ll make you wish you could die,” says GLaDOS as the trailer ends. I’m feeling pretty good about Valve not disappointing with this one;Portal 2it hits Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Mac, and PC in 2011....

Factor 5 artist spills info on financial issues and canceled project, backpedals

If a quickly-disappearing blog post by Factor 5 artist Sam Baker is to be believed, the developer hasn’t been immune to recent economic hardships, resulting in the cancellation of at least one project. In a recent blog post, Baker spilled details on the company’s rough financial situation, including the loss of employee health care benefits. He explained that without proper funding, a project he had been working on was forced to stop production....

Families of U.S war dead complain about Six Days in Fallujah

The ridiculous controversy about a game that we know nothing aboutcontinues apace, as families of U.S war dead have contributed to the whining mass of biased over-raction. Despite the fact that these people have neverseenthe game or any of its content, they too have decided that Konami is “trivializing” and “making fun” of those who died in the Iraq War. Apparently if your son dies in Iraq, you gain psychic powers like this....

Finally! Plants vs. Zombies on iPhone ready for next week

It feels like the iPhone version of PopCap Games’Plants vs. Zombiesis 65 million years in the making. We have known about its existence for so long that I almost don’t believe PopCap when the company says February 15 is the date of arrival. I’d even go so far as to say there’s been a large enough gap betweenPlants vs. Zombieson PC and this iPhone port that I would gladly double dip....
