Weekend Reading: seven games that should become movies

After readingThe Escapist Magazinethe other week (Nex loves them too), I thought back to a piece that I did a while ago about some upcoming video game movies. As a student of filmmaking and a gamer to make game movies that do not suck before people like Uwe Boll and Roger Avary get their hands on some really great licenses. Thus, this week I present to you seven games that really should be turned into movies....

Will GTA: The Lost and Damned come to PC? Looks like it

A new update (noticed byGTA4.Net) forGrand Theft Auto IVon PC all but confirms “The Lost and Damned” add-on will one day be heading beyond the Xbox 360’s exclusivity. The patchadded Achievements for the first of, uh,two DLC packsfor the game, as shown above. This of course leads us to the logical conclusion that the add-ons are only timed exclusives for the Microsoft console. But that raises the question, does this mean PlayStation 3 owners will get their day too?...

Winners of The Destructoid Show’s 3DS Destruction Contest

We got some great submissions. Narrowing the winners down to three was tricky, but our winners were Miguel Sosa Barajas (pictured above),Richard Gonzalez, andZair Salahuddin. The rest of the submissions can be seen in the gallery below. My personal favorites were the one where I was in women’s underwear pretending to be a unicorn, and the one where the overweight woman was eating a cake with a 3DS on it....

Work on Tekken x Street Fighter not even started

Last year, Namco Bandai and Capcom announcedTekken x Street FighterandStreet Fighter x Tekkengames, respectively. Since then, Capcom has been hard at work on making its game a reality. It even had a fully playable version of the game (pictured here) at its Captivate event in Miami earlier this year, and we expect even more playable at E3 in June. So far, it’s looking great. Namco Bandai on the other hand, well… hasn’t been doing much of anything on theTekken x Street Fighterfront....

And, making an already solid week that much better, we’re getting a handful of new sales: If nothing else, downloadWinterbottom— it’s one of the raddest XBLA games out there, even if the whole “time manipulation” fad is growing tired. I’m also toldChimeis stellar, although that’s one I still need to get for myself....

XSEED explains why Korg DS-10 is not in most stores

TheKorg DS-10 is a fine piece of music creation software. It essentially turns your Nintendo DS into a full-blown synthesizer, totally capable of making great music. This cartridge is now eternally my travel mate. I can make music on the go, any time I want. This past weekend, I was traveling with friends. After annoying them with my “club music,” I used the touch pad (mapped to a low buzzy synth patch) to make fart noises on command....

An Elebit never forgets: Electric monster zapping sequel on the way

Elebits(orEledeesas it is pointlessly called in the UK) is a fun little game. It’s neither mindblowing nor especially engaging, but as a quirky and laid back experience, it made for a decent early Wii title. More of that is nothing to complain about, andmore of that is on the way. Konami is yet to release an official statement, but the game is expected to release later this year. No further details have been announced, but I don’t expect many innovations....

Featured on iTunes’ “New & Noteworthy” section,The Blocks Comethfor iOS is theexactsame game as Halfbot’s Flash title, taking the name, the concept, and even the art assets with only a cosmetic change made to the player character (confirmed by Halfbot to have been stolen from the gameLeague of Evil)....

AstroDriller 3020 is like an inverted Missile Command

That’s what I thought of while playing the demo for this new indie game.AstroDriller 3020is a game that has you guiding colored asteroids into collectors of matching color by drawing lines. Juggling asteroids a bit will grind them down, thus making them more valuable, so there’s a bit of a greed balancing effect at work. I played a bit of the demo, getting through the first half-dozen levels and it gets tricky in short order....

Avatar producer blames Fox for sh*tty game selling badly

James Cameron Presents James Cameron’s Avatar by James Cameron: The Official Game of the Official James Cameron Movie Directed by James Cameron in Association with James Camerondid not perform well enough for movie producer Jon Landau’s liking. He thinks the game could have done better, and he blames 20th Century Fox for the perceived failure. According to Landau, Fox did not understand Ubisoft’s needs when it came to marketing the game, wouldn’t let the publisher release a trailer early enough, and generally urged movie companies to work closer with game developers in order to create quality tie-ins....

Awesome wireless game gun won’t make you better at games

Badass community member and all around swell fellow unstoppablejuggernautspotted a nifty gadgeton YouTube. It’s called the GameGun and it’s a gun for games. Nothing new there, right? Wrong. It’s more than just a fancy light gun it’s got motion tracking, meaning that your movements are what appear on screen. Turn left, you turn left. It doesn’t use drivers, so it works with every game out there. The video above has what appears to be the inventor of the gun and owner of Blackhall, the “company” behind the the GameGun, showing the very cool looking tech off....

Bayonetta goes 8-bit with Angel Land

The best April Fool jokes aren’t the ones that trick you, they’re the ones that make you wish they’d been real. Case in point, this video created by Platinum Games.Bayonettagets an 8-bit flavor in a game that I’d actually totally play if only it were genuine. Sadly, it isn’t, so we’re just going to have to look at it with misery. Yeah, I’ve pretty much given up pretending these things are real....
