Obscurity: A lost and hidden world

[For your Bloggers Wanted assignment last week, you were asked to write about a game you thought was relatively obscure; one that a lot of your peers likely hadn’t played or even heard of. Today, Kyle MacGregor (the artist formerly known as Cadtalfryn)would like to tell you something about a browser-based online game calledHiddenworld, which you may even play for yourself since it’s still online. Kind of reminds me ofLegend of the Red Dragonfrom my BBS days!...

Penny Arcade Adventures takes the honors for highest grossing XBLA debut

Despite extensive bitching all over the internet that the price of the first chapter of Penny Arcade’s new serial title,Penny Arcade Adventures, was too pricey for their pocketbooks, it seems most people got over their crabbiness long enough to download the title. The game made $330,000 in its first three days, beating out the previous record debut titleholder,Worms HD. The positive response will likely lead to a brisk release of the second chapter, but this isn’t good news for the exploits of Gabe and Tycho alone....

Poison Pink: best ambigious title for a strategy RPG ever

Surely there’s a Japanese porn director groaning somewhere over the fact that this title was used for a video game rather than his privately envisioned opus about an innocent young girl with a deadly vagina, but that’s too bad for him. Next time!Poison Pinkis a Banpresto PS2 strategy title recently released in Japan in which you play a non-linear story with features such as demon-collection, where captured critters can fight in your party....

So what do you get when you takeLittleBigPlanetand put it on the PSP?LittlerBiggerPlanet? I’m stretching for a joke here, but that’s kind of what I got from my few minutes playingLittleBigPlanet PSPis that, yes, it is exactly likeLittleBigPlanetfor the PS3. And that’s really all there is to say about it. While there are some cuts to the game (and a rather major one at that, if you hit the jump), I can easily say that there really isn’t too much more to say about the game other than it’s portable and very much like the original....

Preview: Roogoo: Twisted Towers and Roogoo: Attack

Roogoo , I would argue, was the most under-appreciated title of 2008. How can I say this? Well considering it has a Metacritic score of 78, there is an adorable main character, and it came out last year to almost no fanfare, I can generally assume that most people passed right over it. Which is a drag, as anybody who has at least played the demo forRoogooon Xbox LIVE Arcade can agree that it is an amazingly charming game....

I often lament the fact that I don’t have a gaming-capable PC, but to be honest, I’m very glad that I don’t own one for some things. EA’sThe Simsfranchise is one of those things. I could easily see myself whiling away my days and nights, glued to a computer monitor, stealing random objects from people’s houses. “Wait, what?”you may be asking. Oh, that’s right — I haven’t yet explained the all-new trait system that’s the foundation of your Sim’s personality inThe Sims 3, which wasrecently delayed to June 2nd....

Remedy files new trademark for Death Rally

Friends don’t let friends drive cars with chainguns. Not because the idea isn’t metal — not, it’s totally metal — but because, generally speaking, videogames featuring weapon-equipped vehicles blow. We’re not sure if this rule applies to the 1996 DOS titleDeath Rally, but we’ll know soon enough. According tosuperannuation, Remedy Entertainment has filed a new trademark for the title, indicating that it could be seeing re-release in the future. As pointed out by superannuation, the trademark makes it sound like the release method will be digital, as it states the trademark will be used for “computer game software, and any printed instructions or printed hint manuals sold therewith as a unit....
