This week only, you can snatch the sci-fi, sidescrolling shooter for 800 Microsoft Points instead of the usual 1,200 Microsoft Points. According to Microsoft’s-LIVE-ManMajor Nelson’s math, this is a savings of 33 percent. Nice. R-Type Dimensions, by the way, is a pseudo-fresh-take on the franchise. It’s also the first one out of the door, launching in North America while the others still haven’t confirmed a Western release....

Many people have been worried that the Xbox 360 versions ofSuper Street Fighter II Turbo HD RemixandBionic Commando: Rearmedwould be lower-quality titles compared to the PlayStation 3 and PC versions of the games. Both games are offering a lot of new content on top of all the HD stuff, so this was causing both games to go over Microsoft’s file size limit on XBLA games. Capcom reassured everyone earlier in the week that this is not the case anymore....
XSEED has sent out a press release announcing that the colorful action RPGSolatorobo: Red the Hunterhas gone gold and will ship across the US on September 27. Along with reiterating details that have been announced previously, such as the bundling of asoundtrack CDin first-run copies, the release also unveiled the game’s USwebsite. One of the greatest platforming levels of all time, Chemical Plant Zone, is set to appear inSonic Generations, and the very first gameplay footage has been posted on the Internet for our viewing pleasure. It isnotdisappointing. This footage gives us a look at both the “classic” and “modern” stages, complete with revamped music. Itlookspretty damn fantastic … I hope it plays as good.
Assuming IGN ever getsthe post up, they’re about tobreak newsreport that Sonic has been confirmed as a playable character inSuper Smash Bros. Brawl. According to their magically disappearing post title, not only is the hedgehog a new combatant, but co-op online play has been confirmed as well. All this news apparently came from Nintendo’sextremely hush-hush meetingearlier today in which they apparently revealed some huge bombshells and hopefully had delicious snacks. Today marks the fifteenth anniversary of the original PlayStation’s launch in North America. The little grey system was an absolute phenomenon when it launched in 1995, arguably the first system to take a step toward making games socially acceptable and cool in mainstream eyes. Plus of course, it was the precursor to the PS2, scientifically deemed the greatest console ever. “PlayStation has sold over 377 million hardware consoles across its product portfolio since 1995 and more than 2 billion software units around the world,” boasts Sony....
When Sony proudly announced that the PlayStation 3 would cost $599, way back in 2006, the world laughed and Sony didn’t understand why. The console was an expensive investment but a significant number of consumers didn’t like that investment being passed onto them. In 2011, Sony’s finally figured that out.
