E3 08: Miyamoto ‘flattered’ by Microsoft’s innovative new Mii system

If you’ve been following E3 (since it’s such an obscure event) then you’ll doubtless be aware of Microsoft’snewinnovations, such as motion sensing microphones, blinking lights, EyeToys and even this fantastic new “Mii” concept, which is innovative because the Miis are called avatars, and avatar is a word withthree syllablesin it. That’s pretty inventive. Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto has had thenerveto try and claim some sort of credit for Microsoft’s creation, as if he invented Miis first and is being copied....

E3 10: Platforming in Bonk: Brink of Extinction

It’s been an interesting year for retro games making a return, especially those that were b-level at best. For example,Rocket Knightmade an acceptable return in a downloadable platformer, and Nintendo has brought backKid Icarusfrom the dead for the 3DS. Hudson, not one to be left out of the fun, hasBonk: Brink of Extinctionmaking a return as a downloadable title coming this year. With some hands-on, I can see if this game holds up to expectations...

E3: 30 minutes to give all of my love to E3 2011

Last year, my video producer, Andy, and I made a video about trying to make the most ofthe last 45 minutes of E3. We didn’t plan on doing another video like that this year. The pressure of trying to replicate the spontaneous nature of the original video just ruined the fun of it. Then, before we knew it, there was only a half an hour before E3 was over, and I realized that once again, there was so much stuff that I didn’t get a chance to see, and people that I didn’t get to say goodbye to....

EA thinking Spore as a platform

We all know thatSporeis a special game, regardless of how it is being received by the media and gamers alike. The little bits and pieces of technology that have been injected into the title that compose its real-time strategy or life simulation portions are distinct and have obviously taken a ton of time to create. Because ofSpore’sinherent uniqueness and its pliability as a game, Electronic Arts’ President, Frank Gibeau, has been thinking that Spore could be licensed out as a platform that other developers can use to build their own games....

Evil looking toys are evil in THQ’s DS puzzler Dropcast

I hadn’t heard of THQ’s upcoming Nintendo DS battle/puzzlerDropcastuntil the screens and fact sheet just landed in our mail box, but I’m definitely intrigued. The game features a maladjusted little girl who brings her imaginary stuff animal friends to life, teaching them devastating magic spells. OK, so this closely mirrors my childhood, which would explain my interest. But I’m also all about the games that — like Infinite Interactive’sPuzzle Quest— merge puzzle gameplay with role-playing attack elements....

Rejoice! Rejoice, for at last, there is a reason to buy the PlayStation Portable. And no, it doesn’t involve UMD, PlayStation 3, XMB, Wi-fi or any of that other crap. Ironically enough, it doesn’t even involve Sony. PSP Newsat DCEmu brings us the following news of a PSOne emulator for the PSP. First picture from the set of Hitman film

The mysterious “UNDERSTAR” pointed us in the direction of some one of thefirst imagesfrom the set of the upcomingHitmanfilm. As you can see, Agent 47 (played by actor Timothy Olyphant), is not only significantly happier looking than he should be, but also quite a bit younger than you’d expect. But with French director Xavier Gens at the helm, the Skip Woods (Swordfish) screenplay should really dazzle audiences. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go watchBloodRayne....

Five things I learned from playing a preview build of Ninja Gaiden II

For the past few weeks, I’ve been playing around with a preview build of Team Ninja’s upcoming splatter-fest,Ninja Gaiden II. Published by Microsoft exclusively for the Xbox 360,Ninja Gaiden IIis a tale of family, revenge, and sword-wielding canines wearing bondage gear. In short, the game seems to be shaping up to deliver more of the savage action Team Ninja delivered on the original Xbox back in 2004. While not a complete build of the game, I made my way through six stages of bloodletting and extreme brutality....
