Mars’ lead platform is the PS3, but not for the fun of it

A studio not named Valve believes the PlayStation 3 is a “complicated” platform. In an interview withThat Video Games Blog, Spider Games CEO Jehanne Rousseau said the lead platform for the upcoming role-playing gameMarsis the PlayStation 3, however, it’s not because they’re in love with the shiny black box. According to Spider brass, the choice was made because “the PS3 is a very complicated platform.” “[If] we concentrate now on all the difficulties and strong points of this console and if we can go over them, the other platforms should be simple to approach....

Matthew Sweet considering lawsuit over use of ‘Girlfriend’ in Guitar Hero II

From the outside looking in, I’m not exactly sure why an artist wouldn’t want his or her music in a popular music game, but singer-songwriter Matthew Sweet isn’t all that thrilled. Speaking withNorth County Times, Sweet says he was unaware that his song “Girlfriend” would be included in 2006’sGuitar Hero II. “I’ve been trying to see if I can get a lawsuit against them ’cause they never asked to use the song,” Sweet said right after noting that “a lot of kids have gotten into” his music because of the inclusion of the song in the title....

Metal Gear Jesus: religious parallels in the Metal Gear Solid series

In between all the awful(ly amazing) Solid Snake impressions onPodtoid’s 50th episode, Tiff Chow and I got into a very brief, very nonspecific conversation about the possible presence of the Holy Trinity in theMetal Gear Solidseries. I thought, to kick off our Official Countdown toMGS4(each day this week, an editor — probably Chad, since he came up the idea in the first place — will present a feature discussing a different aspect of the series), I’d go full tilt with the whole Bible analogy thing and find out just how manyMGScharacters have counterparts in the Bible....

Mixing and mashing: Hands-on with DJ Hero

It’s an odd thing. While I listen almost exclusivelypretentioushipstermusic, I’ve been pretty lucky in checking out DJ music games this year. I’ve had hands-on (and off) time withScratch: The Ultimate DJ, so I was dead interested in checking out what big boy Activision has in store for DJ fans this year. I have to say,DJ Herois wildly different than what I expected. That’s not bad! What I mean is,DJ Herois a very different sort of music game....

More X-Blades screens and details, because we always need more of those

I love it when games that aren’t hyped at all still manage to get a ridiculous amount of coverage.X-Blades’article swamp is mostly my fault, since I’ve taken almostevery opportunityI can to make jokes about main character Ayumi’s lack of clothing. I also have a thing for underprivileged action games. This is coming from one of the five Westerners who playedBujingai, after all. Anyway, here are some more pictures from this game that hardly any of you care about....

Multiplatform Devil May Cry 4 is a big hit for Capcom

Right about now, Capcom is patting themselves on the back for following through with the tough decision to takeDevil May Cry 4multiplatform. Their press release boasts that not only didDMC4reach the 2-million shipped mark, but it did so in record time — surpassing the other three games in the series in the process. I’ve just about finished the game myself, and I can see why. Even though I’m still questioning their decision toforce an installon some of us in the process,DMC4plays like a hack-and-slash dream....

MW2 may have had the biggest entertainment launch ever

Seems like the early morning analyst wasn’t too far off the mark regardingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’sday-one sales. Activision internal estimates have pegged worldwide launch day sales at a cool $310 million. According to Activision, this little estimate nugget makesMW2’slaunch the “biggest launch in the history across all forms of entertainment” with around 4.7 million units sold. Roll that around in your head for a second. So,thisis the reason why my GameStop’s midnight release line was wrapped around the abandoned plaza the boutique sits in....
