Indie Nation #24: Warning Forever

This week, TIGSource.com announced the winners of theirProcedural Generation competition, wherein contestants had to create games based around some degree of procedural generation. You should definitely check them out, as the winners are pretty damned interesting. I won’t be highlighting them on this week’s Indie Nation, however: but the competition reminded me of a game that I’ve been wanting to highlight for quite some time, that literally everyone should play at least once:Warning Forever....

It’s all good fun until someone gets stabbed: LAN Party Massacre

If you’ve been reading my work on Destructoid for a while, you already knowI love horror, whether it be in game, film or haunted house form. Aside from survival horror titles likeSilent HillandFatal Frame, it doesn’t seem like there are a lot of references in games to other types of horror, such as the belovedEvil Dead 2variety. Can we get some satire up in here, people? EnterCreatively Bankrupt Productions, the masterminds behindLAN Party Massacre, an indie feature that looks like it has the chops to bring both the laughs and the gore....

Japan getting MW3 and Uncharted 3-themed DualShock 3s

Is it true things always come in three’s? Well in this case, no. But Sony appears to be going for a theme of three with theirCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3andUncharted 3DualShock 3 controllers. A couple days ago Sony showed off the new DualShock 3 controllers that would be celebrating the release of these hotly anticipated games. So far these appear to be a Japanese exclusive. Now, I wasn’t able to see theModern Warfare 3one, presumably because it was covered in camo and that made it blend in so well....

Japan to expect an announcement from Microsoft next week?

Normally we’d do a little more poking around before we link to a link that links to a link’s link. But with Microsoft’scraptastictrack recordof “big” announcements, we’ll just mention this one, and then shrug our shoulders when nothing (or next to nothing) comes out of it. It seems that Microsoft is teasing an announcement planed for next week in Japan. We know that the 2008 Game Developers Conference is next week, andKotakupoints out that the original Xbox release anniversary is coming around again, so the air is ripe with good timing....

Japanese chatter and footage of Mega Man Legends 3

The more I see ofMega Man Legends 3, the more I want it. I had no idea that Barrett (the lead character of the soon to be releaseMega Man Legends 3 Prototype Version) had so many exciting and violent techniques. He can run straight up walls, shoryuken robots, and even pull off a move move that looks exactly like Viewtiful Joe’s Red Hot Kick. The combination of shooting, city exploring, close combat, and super heroics evokes a bit of aCrackdownvibe, but infused with the Servbots that my body craves....

Kirby’s Epic Yarn was originally a new IP

WhenKirby’s Epic Yarnwas announced, there were a few among us who cynically suggested that it looked like a new IP that Kirby had been shoehorned into. It would appear that cynicism has won the day, with Nintendo admitting this was the case. The game was originally pitched asFluff’s Yarn, and starred what one can only assume is the co-op character in the final game, Prince Fluff. Nintendo told the creators at Good Feel that it wanted Kirby to be in the game during the Summer of 2009, a move that concerned producer Etsunobu Ebisu at first, since his team put a lot of effort into the Fluff character....

LIT comes to PAL regions this October 30th

You may recall way back when we review WayForward’s horror puzzlerLIT, and how much I enjoyed the title (it was a bit of a surprise to find something so good on WiiWare in the sea of generic puzzlers and uninspired “family” titles). However, it only came out in North America at that time. Later this month, the game will be coming to all PAL territories and will also have subtitles available in French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Dutch....

Live Show: Backlog pushes into hour 7 of Killer 7

Just a real quick note to let you all know that we’re currently streaming live from Couchtoid. It’s time four our nightly dose of Backlog as I continue to ford the river of blood that isKiller 7. Last night was significantly easier than prior nights have been, but certainly no cakewalk. I think I may have said a curse word or two. I think we’re headed into one of the game’s boss encounters next....

Mad Catz Official Street Fighter IV FightPad impressions

Not everyone has playedStreet Fighteron an arcade machine at an actual arcade. If you haven’t, then you need a serious education in gaming. Good luck finding a local arcade, though … they’re all but dead in the US now. That means the younger generation of gamers is used to playing these fighting games on control pads, not using joysticks. It’s the sad truth. There are also those few who prefer a control pad over a joystick....

We all probably felt a little disappointed when the predictable news came aroundthatMAGwould be pushed back into 2010. Metal Slug 3 on XBLA this Wednesday

Just one Xbox Live Arcade release is scheduled for next week, but it’s a good one:Metal Slug 3(800 Microsoft Points). Before you say anything about the price, remember thatMetal Slug 3was also released as a stand-alone game for the original Xbox, so while the Live Arcade port might not be as cheap as other 2D games that have been ported to the service likeSonic the Hedgehog, it’s not a complete rip-off....

Mic check with Def Jam Rapstar

Earlier this week, my neighbors were likely unprepared for me belting out the words “I don’t love you hoes… I’m out the do’.” And the girl walking her dog outside, in front of the ceiling-high windows of my living room? Who knows what she thought when she saw me shouting “Oooh, baby, baby… baby baby” at my television set. I was, of course, playing the upcoming hip-hop and R&B rap-themed “karaoke” game,Def Jam Rapstar....
