E3 09: Check out Forza 3’s all-new video editor and more

Forza Motorsport 3, according to Turn 10? It’s the “definitive racing game of this generation.” Whether or not you agree with this assessment is up to you, but I’m inclined to believe there’s a sizable chance the development team could end up being correct. Yesterday,we showed youa trailer forForza 3, as well as a gallery full of ridiculously high-res screenshots. A good start, definitely, but today we’re bringing something much more: a slice of gameplay footage, a look at the new video editor, and a nice segment on car customization....

E3 10: New Xbox 360 won’t display the ‘red ring of death’

The smaller Xbox 360 250 GB Elite models cannot physically display the oft-gotten “red ring of death,” according to a system specification sheet Joystiq got its hands on. Why is that, you ask? Because if (when) one of these new consoles experiences technical issues, it will display green lights instead. That’s right — a green ring of light will be used to alert us when it’s time to phone up Xbox customer support....

E3: The Walking Dead will change everything

Telltale Games was unfortunately very tight-lipped when it came to their new episodic game based on the popular comic and television showThe Walking Dead. When asked about the game they didn’t have much more to say other than “it is the darkest place we have ever been.” From a company that is known for pleasant, funny adventure games, this is an intriguing and interesting comment. When it comes to the game itself, Telltale did tell me in our meeting yesterday thatThe Walking Deadwill use thecomicas canon (not the T....

The ludicrous sales are usually left to Steam this time of year, but Electronic Arts has come up trumps on the App Store of all places. Barring the games it released Wednesday evening, Electronic Arts has cut nearly all of its iOS games down to a paltry $0.99. Games likeMirror’s Edge,Need for Speed ShiftandTetriscan all be yours for a pathetic buck apiece. Unfortunately, Rock Band isn’t one of them. But hey, who needsRock Bandwhen you may getScrabblefor a dollar?...

EA sued for copyright infringement over ‘Active’ name

The folks at theI’ve-never-heard-of-themActive Network are out to get EA. The online workout network is accusing Electronic Arts of copyright infringement, saying that they’ve taken the “Active” name for their EA Sports Active fitness game series. The Active Network trademarked in 2008, and offers services under the Active brand, including exercise programs and online tracking of workouts. If you know anything aboutEA Sports Active, you’ll know that the software does many of those same things…and under the same name....

Edit levels to your liking in Echochrome

There’s already been much buzz aboutEchochrome, PS3’s upcoming offering that looks like an accidental slip into MC Escher’s famous Relativity painting. The new word on the street is that the title will include a level editor so players can craft their own impossible levels and then force friends to attempt to solve them until they weep with frustration. Sounds like a blast for the gaming sadists out there. The title is confirmed for PS3 and PSP release in Japan, but so far all America’s got confirmation on is a PSN downloadable version of the game....

Epic Mickey is a love letter to Disneyland

Don’t believe Warren Spector. Everyone doesnotknow and understand Disneyland. My first trip to the park was just last Wednesday. That night, I walked through Disneyland alone. Under those conditions, I honestly didn’t see what was so great about the place. On my second day, I was taken on a guided tour of the park, lead by Warren Spector. That’s when it all started to make sense. Mr. Spector’s deep, multi-layered affection for the park is nothing short of infectious....

ESRB text for Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage is rad

We already knowthat upcoming gameFist of the North Star: Ken’s Rageis hilarious. I’m already jazzed for this ridiculous game, and I’m sure you are too. The newly listedESRB summaryfor the Xbox 360 and PS3 title does it justice, as you’ll see here: Players have the ability to use Kenshiro’s signature move on enemies—a flurry of intense punches that triggers a breakdown of internal organs and death. Nice. It goes on to say that gang members react to damage by screaming in pain and flailing or flinging back....

Europe gets a DS cooking game: Cooking Guide

I know I’m going to catch “get back in the kitchen” comments for this, but I have to admit it — I like cooking. I decided to learn to like it when I realized I was thirty years old and likely to starve to death if I didn’t teach myself. For that reason, Nintendo’s new DS game,Cooking Guide: Can’t Decide What to Eatactually appeals to me. It’s a shame it’s a European release, because I might have bought it if I could have read it....

F.E.A.R. 3 ‘Soul King’ multiplayer explained

This is a video describing “Soul King,” one of the new multiplayer offerings inF.E.A.R. 3. Later this year, you’ll move about as a spirit, possessing the bodies of people and using their weapons to kill other people. The video covers it pretty well. What I find fascinating about this mode is that it’s pretty much the gameplay found inGeist, a Nintendo-published game released in 2005. In that, you were a spirit and could move from body to body, using the skills and equipment of each body to fight people....

Faith and a .45: Total Overdose developers delight with some depression

While it’s by no means a classic, I have a certain fondness for Deadline Games’Total Overdose, a title that melded sandbox,GTA-style violence with a cartoony style and ridiculously over-the-top showmanship. It’s with great joy then, that Ihear tellof a brand new IP coming from Deadline, with the classy name ofFaith and a .45. Described as a “Bonnie and Clyde” style adventure,Faith and a .45is to be set in the Great Depression era, certainly something you don’t often see as a backdrop in videogames....
