The ludicrous sales are usually left to Steam this time of year, but Electronic Arts has come up trumps on the App Store of all places. Barring the games it released Wednesday evening, Electronic Arts has cut nearly all of its iOS games down to a paltry $0.99. Games likeMirror’s Edge,Need for Speed ShiftandTetriscan all be yours for a pathetic buck apiece. Unfortunately, Rock Band isn’t one of them. The folks at theI’ve-never-heard-of-themActive Network are out to get EA. The online workout network is accusing Electronic Arts of copyright infringement, saying that they’ve taken the “Active” name for their EA Sports Active fitness game series. The Active Network trademarked in 2008, and offers services under the Active brand, including exercise programs and online tracking of workouts. If you know anything aboutEA Sports Active, you’ll know that the software does many of those same things…and under the same name....

There’s already been much buzz aboutEchochrome, PS3’s upcoming offering that looks like an accidental slip into MC Escher’s famous Relativity painting. The new word on the street is that the title will include a level editor so players can craft their own impossible levels and then force friends to attempt to solve them until they weep with frustration. Sounds like a blast for the gaming sadists out there. The title is confirmed for PS3 and PSP release in Japan, but so far all America’s got confirmation on is a PSN downloadable version of the game....

Don’t believe Warren Spector. Everyone doesnotknow and understand Disneyland. My first trip to the park was just last Wednesday. That night, I walked through Disneyland alone. Under those conditions, I honestly didn’t see what was so great about the place. On my second day, I was taken on a guided tour of the park, lead by Warren Spector. That’s when it all started to make sense. Mr. Spector’s deep, multi-layered affection for the park is nothing short of infectious....

Europe is getting a couple of sweetModNation Racersbundles for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable later this month. ModNation Racersseems like a pretty cute and rad racing game. My king and all around American hero, Nick Chester, has played both versions of the title and he liked what he saw....

This is a video describing “Soul King,” one of the new multiplayer offerings inF.E.A.R. 3. Later this year, you’ll move about as a spirit, possessing the bodies of people and using their weapons to kill other people. The video covers it pretty well. What I find fascinating about this mode is that it’s pretty much the gameplay found inGeist, a Nintendo-published game released in 2005. In that, you were a spirit and could move from body to body, using the skills and equipment of each body to fight people....

While it’s by no means a classic, I have a certain fondness for Deadline Games’Total Overdose, a title that melded sandbox,GTA-style violence with a cartoony style and ridiculously over-the-top showmanship. It’s with great joy then, that Ihear tellof a brand new IP coming from Deadline, with the classy name ofFaith and a .45. Described as a “Bonnie and Clyde” style adventure,Faith and a .45is to be set in the Great Depression era, certainly something you don’t often see as a backdrop in videogames....
