Konami gave me the best swag ever

Last week, Ben PerLee and I attended the Konami Gamer’s Night in San Francisco. Upon leaving the event, Konami handed us a very unique piece of swag. Konami was giving out vials of “blood” with information on it showing members of the press where they can get all the assets for the Konami and Hudson games you saw posted throughout the day today. Last night while putting some finishing touches on my previews for today, I was playing around with the vial of blood when I happened to notice two things....

Let Nintendo show you their pokemans for the win

Whether you love the Wii or hate it, one cannot deny the power of Nintendo’s success thus far. Nor willPokémonCEO Tsunekazu Ishihara, who has shared withGamespotin a recent interview his confidence that Nintendo will win the war this generation. But it won’t be the already impressive sales of both home and handheld consoles, innovative design or mainstream appeal that will see the Big N reclaiming the mountain. Ishihara has a much more streamlined, singular reason as to why Nintendo are destined for victory:...

Making a movie is hip: Assassin’s Creed joins the short film contest party

Ten years ago, being a filmmaker required talent, dedication, time, and most importantly, a great deal of money. These days, with cheap digital cameras and the fabulous Internet, everyone’s a God damned Orson Welles. Witness the recentNintendo Short Cutscontest, which prompted 8,497 reader tips about somePunch Out!!short film that I refuse to watch. IFC and Ubisoft are looking for assassin inspired short films (they’re talking length here, not a film starring dwarves … although extra points for that, in my book) for theirAssassin’s CreedShort Film Contest, taking place over at IFC....

Monday Mind Teasers – 1/8/06

Fronz is a very busy man. He works for many a website, writes many an article, and makes me do many a favor for him while he’s in Vegas playing with toys. One of those favors is this here Monday Mind Teasers; a bitch of an article, really. Fronz is silly. Why’d he think of this article? Big idiot. That’s right, I’m cheap-shotting Fronz while he’s in Vegas. Anyway, since I’m such a nice person, and I’d done it before, I decided I’d do it again....

Neutral karma, not in inFamous because no one cared about it

After coming to grips withFallout 3’sdreary world, I decided that I wanted to straddle the Karma line; to make no choice according to a plan. But my journey with moral ambiguity ended quickly after I watched Megaton turn to ash. At that moment I knew I was a bad guy and there was no sense in doing anyone a favor. And now that I think about it, I’ve never been able to hover in a grey area....

New screens of Skate 3 emerge

When I was eleven or twelve, I was always on a skateboard. I wasn’t one of those kids who was really attempting to learn how to ollie and kickflip, though I’ll admit to an occasional fantasy that I might someday. No, it was all about transportation, something I think many people often forget about with all the glitz and glamour associated with professional skateboarding and the X Games and such. Skateboards are a pretty good way to get around....

New Splinter Cell video takes us two hours to download

Splinter Cell Convictiongenerated a ton of positive buzz at E3 2009. The demonstration for the game proved that Ubisoft was capable of turning the stealth genre on its head and making it far less aggravating by equipping players with the tools and abilities to truly navigate a hostile environment. Plus, Fisher executed a dude in a dingy bathroom — nothing is better than that. Below the fold is a taste of what we saw at the event....

Nintendo DLC: Zombie Panic in Wonderland, other stuff

This week finally sees the release of the long-awaited WiiWare title,Zombie Panic in Wonderland. The $10 title looks like it packs quite a bit into the small package — seven playable characters, hidden levels, and… zombies. In Wonderland, obviously. The rest of the selections pale in comparison to zombies invading a wonderland, with a kung-fu WiiWare title (that’s NOT a reboot ofKung Fu Master, which should happen), a balloon popping game for the DSi, and some other stuff that we’ll all probably forget about by lunch time....

Nintendo is like Death, coming for all of us eventually

Reggie Fils-Aime, the man with meatballs of steel, has statedthat Nintendo’s ultimate goal is to capture all of us, and hardcore shooter fans are up next on the list of souls he wishes to claim. WithThe ConduitandDead Space: Extraction, the pork flavored president believes that the “core” gamer is his for the taking. “We have near-term, mid-term and long-term opportunities,” he claims. “The near-term opportunity is the consumer who owns a PlayStation 3 or an Xbox 360 and has been bad-mouthing Wii to their friends....
