As much as I love theHaloseries, I’m already ready to jump into the next first-person shooter. Thankfully,Call of Duty: Black Opsis right around the corner and this campaign trailer is looking pretty damn good. The end of the trailer is pretty intriguing. Is the main player being forced into a game of Russian Roulette? Guess we’ll find out come November 11.

Well this is a pleasant surprise: A developer has actually made a Wii game look presentable to a next-gen crowd. Yes, there are still noticeable jaggies inTiger Woodsfor the Wii, but still, the animations and everything else look rather fluid. One obvious missing element, however, is of course the presence of crowds. Clearly the Wii’s GameCube-like processor can’t handle that part — or maybe this is just an early build, who knows....

In the world of gaming-consoles-that-I-don’t-dream-games-were-released-on the Virtual Boy is pretty much at the top of the list. Or so I thought, until these clever Virtual Boy demakes popped up over atPixel Jointin honor of the 15th anniversary of the console’s Japanese launch. I think the Virtual Boy version ofMetroid Primeis by far my favorite of the entries, but theMonkey Islandone is full-on cool, as well. I would have dug theMega Manon VB as well; 3D robot masters could get seriously epic....

It seems like the next logical step for the genre is borrowing more of these concepts, resulting in greater emphasis on calculated decisions — not reflexes — and seeing the big picture. I had a real “WTF?!” moment this weekend when I heard somecelebrity gossipabout Pamela Anderson dating Michael Jackson. A pairing like that doesn’t seem possible as I’m pretty sure that they aren’t the same species. Not that I think either of them are actually humans either, but I still doubt the anatomy would pair up. After I thought about it a moment more, the fear set in. It’s no secret thatnon-gaming parents need helpwith videogame purchases for their children. Hell, some parentsdon’t even like games! There are mediagroups that offer up their over-opinionated guidance,but most experts prefer tofocus on game violence, which often scares non-gaming parents away from the gifts their kids really want. These parents are probably better off making game purchase decisions for themselves. We like to see that at least one expert has their head on straight....
One of the many things that I found delightful aboutLeft 4 Dead 2was its use of daytime levels. It’s not something you see done frequently when it comes to zombies, videogames or otherwise. That said, seeing these dark and damp screenshots of the upcoming add-on “The Passing” has me excited for the return to form — including the appearance of our friends from the originalLeft 4 Dead.As for the new poster, I dig it … I think?...

Hot off the heels of Activision’sModern Warfare 2price hike, it’s been revealed by a number of British retailers that Microsoft isplanning to raise the priceof the Xbox 360 Arcade in the UK. Not only that, but the five XBLA games previously bundled with the system won’t be there. More money for less stuff? That’s how Microsoft rolls. The Arcade currently retails for £129.99. From September 1, the system will instead cost £159....
