When weinterviewed ESA president Michael Gallagher, he told us that the “old E3” would be back in some form. This was welcome news after the craptastic last couple of years we’ve attended. I remember taking a quick break with my lovely co-worker,Colette Bennett, at last year’s E3 event after days of being run ragged. At that point, we had come to the conclusion that we were actuallyangryfor having to be at that event, and that if things continued this way, we didn’t want to come back....

It’s going to be fun seeing developers try to appeal to both the “Wii” side of gaming (social players, families, etc), and the “U” side of gaming (solitary gamers, bachelors/bachelorettes) with their Wii U titles. Looks like they’ve already started with this trailer forGhost Recon: Online. There is definitely “family friendly” vibe here, but with an artificial edginess that would do Mountain Dew proud. Still, it’s cool to see the potential features that may go into the Wii U version of the game....

No one saw theclosure of Microsoft Games Studios developer Ensemble Studioscoming, and that includes the studio’s founder Bruce Shelley. Today Shelley wrotein his blogthat Ensemble employees were “shocked” and remain disappointed with MGS’ decision to close the long-time studio responsible forHalo WarsandAge of Empires. In addition to revealing the impact of the news, Shelley outlines the reasons why he thinks the studio was closed: First, they want to divert the headcount tied up in ES and the costs that are expected to be required to run ES for the next few years into other projects....

At the end of theStreet Fighter X Tekkenpanel this afternoon, producer Yoshinori Ono had a bombshell of an announcement. Unwilling to end the panel without a surprise, he showed a never-before seen trailer that gave clues for the next two characters to be revealed in the game. The two clips were similar to the previous character reveals in which a drawing of the character is presented in pieces. In the first clip, you could clearly images of a foot and hand that had been bandaged....

Big news for fans of the original NESExcitebike— an all new, updated version of the game will be hitting WiiWare on November 9.CalledExcitebike World Rally, the game will feature the same core gameplay as the original, utilizing either the Wii Remote’s motion controls or the buttons for a more classic feel. Like the original, the game will also feature a track editor. But here’s the big news — Excitebike World Rally will also support online multiplayer....

I’ll be honest here, Flash games got me through high school. Without the constant presence of Newgrounds and Homestar Runner I very well may have failed before getting my hands on that diploma. Futuremark Games Studioteased three gamesback in May and after the iOS gameHungriblescompletely passed under my radar, it has now announcedUnstoppable Gorg. Developed by Headup Games, the downloadable title will have you defend our solar system from an alien spieces called the Gorg using satellites around the orbit of planets, moons, and space stations in a form of tower defense. While normally a tower defense game means you build something stationary that “pew-pew” or “woosh” or even “bzap”, this time around you’ll be able to move the orbital defense satellites where they are best suited after placing them....

WithGolden Axe: Beast Riderhitting stores on October 17, Sega is ramping up the PR for its imminent monster-subjugating action game. Here’s a video which bigs up the series and seems intent on reassuring us that this newGolden Axeisn’t going to suck.
