First Assassin’s Creed: Lineage short is… good!?

I think we can all agree that videogame movies are, for the most, junk. So when Ubisoft decided to matters into its own hands, working with Hybride Studios for a series ofAssassin’s Creedshorts, I was… skeptical. But the results, as you can see in this first of the threeAssassin’s Creed: Lineageepisodes, are surprisingly decent. Not Hollywood blockbuster decent. More along the lines of those weird television adaptations of Shakespeare you’d find randomly only PBS — decent acting with modest production values....

Frank West’s camera also back in Dead Rising 2: Case West

I loved the photography aspect of the originalDead Rising, even if it was a bit janky at times. So, I’m thrilled to learn that the mechanic will be returning inDead Rising 2: Case West.In an interview with Eurogamer, co-producer Shinsaku Ohara confirmed as such by saying, “It’s back. It’s part of Frank. So when Frank comes back, so does the photography.” Awesome news, and would tie in perfectly with the downloadable epilogue’s focus on clearing the name ofDead Rising 2hero Chuck Greene....

Free Black Ops 360 avatar clothes for the ladies

Activision made a tactical error in printing up the pack-in download codes for the limited editions ofCall of Duty: Black Ops. Seems they completely neglected to include one gender in the process and only codes for male avatar clothes wound up in the package. To correct the error, Activision has created Xbox Marketplace codes that can be redeemed for those clothes which never wound up in buyer’s hands. Of course, they’re only the female outfits, so dudes are going to be out of luck....

Free copy of Far Cry 2? Something’s phishy about that …

Nothing in life is free, unless you’re talking about Jury service and the Ebola virus. While this is a commonly accepted truth, human logic is almost always overridden by the promise of a freebie. If you’re tempted to override that logic for the free copy ofFar Cry 2being “gifted” on Steam, then think again. It’s all bollocks. A new phishing schemehas been unleashedupon Steam users, offering a “free gift” of Ubisoft’s first person shooter in exchange for you logging into a fake Steam community site and unwittingly handing all your information over to the wankers behind the curtain....

Free Radical blames PS3 for Haze issues

Haze, by all accounts, was not a successful game. The PS3 exclusive didn’t sell well, and it was critically mauled with reviewers citing poorly executed combat, weak technical achievements, bad writing and ambitions that were never realized as incredible low points. The developers, however, believethat the PS3 itselfplayed a significant part inHaze‘s failure. “[Haze] had a lot of development issues which meant it wasn’t the game it should have been,” explains Free Radical’s Karl Hilton....

Games of the Week for 08-07-2025: Swedish Halloween edition

This is a costume I would totally have rocked this past weekend.   As for the past week, the editors of Destructoid played some of those videogames everyone is so keen about. If you read on, our staff will talk about the games they played. Afterwards, we encourage all of you to share the games you spent time on. Open dialogs like these are essential to a good relationship....

Hands-on with L.A. Noire: The Complete Edition on PC

When Team Bondi and Rockstar Games set out to make the great undertaking that wasL.A. Noire, they chose to explore many gray areas of gaming which are most often hidden away from the all-consuming hype and limitless budgets of your average AAA production. Choosing the path less followed, Team Bondi opted out of the normalcy of today’s inundated market with fast-paced action gaming. The final product being a slow and methodical yet harrowing detective tale interlaced with frequent police chases which often culminated in a crescendo of violence worthy of the Rockstar name....
