Gamers don’t care about in-game advertising

Read the comments sections of many gaming blogs and you’d be inclined to believe that the gamer populace is morally opposed to in-game advertising with the fervent passion of a thousand fornicating chimpanzees. Anew study, however, indicates that 82% of gamers actually don’t care about in-game marketing, or at least accept it. “82 percent felt games were just as enjoyable with ads as without,” states the study, conducted by the Nielson company and in-game advertisers IGA Worldwide....

Get a slighlty darker Pichu for free at Gamestop Jan 30th

I’m not one to complain about free stuff, but what the f*ck? Really? A “Pikachu colored Pichu”? That’s a thing I can have? Aren’t all Pichus pretty much Pikachu colored already? Am I missing something here, or is this just more of that “different colored Pokemon are shiny and more special” wacky fun that we Poke-fans supposedly love so well? Want to know something even weirder? If you trade this slightly more jaundiced Pichu over to the yet unreleasedPokemon HearGold/SoulSilver, you can trigger an event to grab that bumpy eared Pichu on the left....

Good Old Games: DRM is ineffective, can cause piracy

Digital Rights Management is a thorny issue among gamers, one that’s likely not going away anytime soon. The chaps atGood Old Games, however, have long boasted of their DRM-free PC titles, and there’s a reason for it — the company doesn’t believe in its usefulness. “What I will say isn’t popular in the gaming industry, but in my opinion DRM drives people to pirate games rather than prevent them from doing that,” said PR and marketing manager Lukasz Kukawski....

Have Hotmail? Want a cheap 360?

Microsoft’s latest attempt to combat Wii and PS3 sales this holiday season comes via Hotmail, that POP3 server people used to use. Somehow, I think this will be less effective than the deal they did with Amazon — $100 off > $30 off and free shipping. C’mon Microsoft, anybody still using Hotmail is obviously loyal to you (otherwise they would’ve jumped ship to something more useful and less awkward), so why not cut them a deal, eh?...
