Loved The Grudge? The game is coming soon

If survival horror is my gaming bread and butter, then Japanese horror films are the film equivalent — I love everything about them from the trademark black hair hanging in people’s faces to the ubiquitous curses. As you may imagine, I was a big fan ofThe Grudge, orJu-Onas it was called in its original Japanese release (and no, I don’t mean the US adaption starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. Yuck). Playing a game based onThe Grudgeis the kind of thing that I have wet dreams about in the middle of the night, but apparently someone thought it was a good idea other than me....

Meet NIER’s companions

Here’s yet another trailer forNIER, which is finally coming out next week. This one is focused on his cohorts during those madcap and totally not melodramatic adventures he has in the game. There’s a talking book and a really defensive girl. Oh, and a totally awesome self-loathing demonic experiment thingy. I can’t tell what the hell this game is ultimately going to be. Ben Perleeseemed interestedin it, which is enough to turn my head....

Melt a 3DS in the microwave? Why not?

“Do Not Attempt” says the opening to this silly video. Someone on the internet has to somehow break every noted piece of electronics released, so we knew it was only a matter of time before we saw a broken Nintendo 3DS. Here the 3DS is being microwaved. Stupid, I know. And I also know that we’re only fueling this fire by posting this story. I thought it was a classy choice to microwave the system while on, with the system’s camera running....

Modern Warfare 3 being held up by legal craziness

This will makethree postsoverone lawsuitthis weekend, but when Activision sues the sh*t hits the fan. While for the most part this lawsuit has very little impact on us gamers, it appears that we may now thank the legal issues going on for apossible delay ofModern Warfare 3. In Activision’s filing against Jason West and Vince Zampella they claim that the pair’s actions were “delaying pre-production ofModern Warfare 3,” and that they are using that delay as “leverage in their negotiations with Activision....

Monthly Musing: Alternate Reality

June’s Monthly Musing was about escape — how video games can pull out of the real world, and how they can, metaphorically speaking, remove you from reality. For July, I want to flip that around. Instead of talking about how gaming can help you escape from the real world, I want you to think about bringing one specific thing from a videogame into real life. It can be a character, a location, a superpower, a belief system, a set of laws, a create, a weapon — anything you want....

MumboJumbo sues PopCap for $4.6 million

PopCap was big pimpin’ for a long time, but now they’re uh…medium pimpin’ after a Dallas judge awarded another casual games publisher, MumboJumbo, $4.6 million of PopCap’s dough. What went down? Back in 2006, PopCap had a contract with MJ. The company would distribute some of PopCap’s games in North America. The problem arose when PopCap began distributing the games on their own. MumboJumbo says that “PopCap committed fraud and tortuous interference when it severely damaged the business relationship between MumboJumbo and a key retailer,” and that some internal emails show that PopCap “employed a calculated use of false and misleading statements in order to sour that business relationship....

Need for Speed: The Run an epic journey, biggest NFS yet

As a kid, I’ve always wanted to get a Harley and drive from coast to coast. Even thoughNeed for Speed: The Rundoesn’t quite live up to those childhood dreams, I would be the last one to complain about Porsches, Zondas and a few hundred miles of track. We chatted with EA Black Box about where the idea for the story came from, its use of the Frostbyte 2 engine, and the new and improved Autolog....

New Rabbids Go Home trailer shows off some Wii love

In early April Ubisoft finally formally announcedRabbids Go Home, a new title for the Nintendo Wii that is described as a comedy/adventure. Yay for that — minigames are fine and good and all, but the Rabbids have mad personality, why not give them a game with more of a story? The new trailer is after the jump, and it looks pretty cute. In fact, if you keep a close eye on the video, you’ll see the Rabbids testing out some fictional Wii accessories before they are woken up to go outside....
