If survival horror is my gaming bread and butter, then Japanese horror films are the film equivalent — I love everything about them from the trademark black hair hanging in people’s faces to the ubiquitous curses. Monster Hunter Triis coming to Wii this year, and Nintendo has dropped some fresh details about the Capcom-published dinosaur massacre sim. The game will be coming with FREE online play in North America, eschewing the subscription fees that currently afflict the Japanese version of the game. You won’t have to pay to steal eggs with your friends. Result! The game will be compatible with WiiSpeak, and there will also be a demo coming....

Warner Bros. has confirmed the stars of the upcomingMortal Kombatlive-action shorts, which are now filming in Vancouver. Some of the faces will look familiar, if you’ve seenKevin Tancharoen’s unofficial short.Star Trek: Voyager‘s Jeri Ryan will be starring as Sonya Blade, with Michael Jai White returning as Jax and300actor Darren Shahlavi stepping in as Kano. The shorts will be directed by Tancharoen, who turned heads with his unofficially, dark and violent take on the series a few months back....

PopCap was big pimpin’ for a long time, but now they’re uh…medium pimpin’ after a Dallas judge awarded another casual games publisher, MumboJumbo, $4.6 million of PopCap’s dough. What went down? Back in 2006, PopCap had a contract with MJ. The company would distribute some of PopCap’s games in North America. The problem arose when PopCap began distributing the games on their own. MumboJumbo says that “PopCap committed fraud and tortuous interference when it severely damaged the business relationship between MumboJumbo and a key retailer,” and that some internal emails show that PopCap “employed a calculated use of false and misleading statements in order to sour that business relationship....

The newest expansion forLord of the Rings Online,Rise of Isengard,has some fancy new screenshots showing off visual upgrades to monster play, the game’s version of PvP. PvMP (player vs monster player) pits the lighter races against players who choose to be monsters. The graphics have certainly improved since I played, and now thatLord of the Rings Onlineisfree to play, I may have to check it out again. Of course, it is only the base game that is free and extras, such asRise of Isengard, still cost....

In early April Ubisoft finally formally announcedRabbids Go Home, a new title for the Nintendo Wii that is described as a comedy/adventure. Yay for that — minigames are fine and good and all, but the Rabbids have mad personality, why not give them a game with more of a story? The new trailer is after the jump, and it looks pretty cute. In fact, if you keep a close eye on the video, you’ll see the Rabbids testing out some fictional Wii accessories before they are woken up to go outside....
